I dunno... But we have some big ass spiders!
Yep learned to watch out for em huntin in Florida.......no doubt.....things was huge.....they like ta float about eye level sometimes and ended up gettin in a face lock with em more than once and their webs kinda like high tension cable sometimes......one time couldnt escape for almost an hour....
ya them and learned not to get to close to even the smallest puddles with them pesky Cottonmouth Water Moccasins......they wait for the little critters to come take a drink but for some reason they were latchin onto peoples ankles left and right too close to or in the water and they dont like to let go after they lock on.......used to see em outta the water on dry forest all the time too .....
even saw a Panther there once.......heard they're bout gone there now.

upon closer inspection one can see the veil of the larger is covered with its spoers, and these spores have also coated the cap of the smaller. Being the same color, and the right alignment for superimposition, gives the impression of a connection. Trick photography? no, just an illusion. sign of a creative mind, to imagine the bizarre so readily.
wish someone had some florida reports. nice rain, want to go out soon but hate to make a trip if its not time yet...

Yep the lil one grew up against the stem of the larger one.. The small one's cap was up against the stem and was forced down. The veil on the large one was lined up with the cap so it did look a bit like the stem was growing threw the smaller cap. Thanks for the kudos
Oh ya .. I bet in a couple days we will be flooded with Finds from FL...

Big ass spiders, venomous snakes, and shrooms big enough you could use them as pillows. You guys make me sooooo jealous. I wish I could someday join you for a hunt.

thought I would share pics of my finds on this thread. Hope you enjoy them. This was my 2nd time ever hunting. I loved every moment of it. Can not wait to get out there tonight for some more pics and adventures. By the way so you know...I am new, and I am in North Carolina in the sandhills area. pj
this last one had reddish pink meaty mushy interior. I found some white wavy capped shrooms as well that had white gills and spores and resembled the shape of a oyster to me. I have a picture but threw them out after looking them over carefully I was nervouse. As a matter of fact I won't be diving into any of the finds from this trip due to the fact that they were stored together in the same bag till I got home. For safety reasons I will only be studying these ones. But hope I learn more as I go. happy hunting pj

Here in middle Georgia it's been dry as a bone for the past couple of weeks, except for only .5" of rain a couple days ago. Does dry weather affect the next time a mushroom fruits (i.e. does it reduce the yield when it finally does rain, or maybe vice versa?) I guess I'm wondering if prolonged dry weather hurts the mycelium underground, or does it cope well?
Thanks, Dave
