My Enthnobotanical collection :) [Cactii, Succ's & Poppies]

Hi guys :smile:

I've been meaning to do this for ages and have finally got around to doing it. Here are just a handful of things I have got growing at the moment. Hope all you Ethno's enjoy them :smile: Feedback would be well appreciated :laugh:















These are probably my favourites. I aquired these last year, as with all my plants put them in to nice pots and good quality cactus mix. The San Pedro is roughly 100mm in diameter and the Bridgesii only falls slightly shorter :smile: They're roughly 800 - 900mm long.







This one above was a rescued San Ped. from a mate. As you can see it has previously been burnt by the harsh NZ sun and malnourished. Once it was in my care you can see the diffence in the pup :smile:



Now on the poppy section. After consuming some poppy seed tea, the left
over seeds were randomly scattered throughour my garden. This was in June roughly when it's coldest here and they have been growing ever since. Due to their size I have shaped them to grow like pumpkins across the grass :laugh:
They have started flowering recently and one specimen in particular, though not the beefiest looking, stands just under my chin. I am 6'1".

What I'm doing at the moment I growing some variety of Somniferum -[Different strain to the ones above, and I'm not sure what kind they are as I aquired the seeds from a friend], in decent sized pots which have high quality potting mix, peat-moss, blood and bone, wormcastings and lots of pumice thouroughly mixed in, and I'm hoping I can get decent sized flowers from this trial in camparison to letting them free reign in a plantation or sorts :smile:



They are all pretty much this size now and have been growing in these bags for roughly a month and a half. [It's only 2 months in to Spring here]





Ok some more Cactii and succulents :laugh:













I like this one, it's spiky as hell and looks weird when not in flower, but it looks like this in Summer time: :smile:









And that's it for now... Hope you liked them as much as I do :laugh: I will put up a shed load more if you guys are interested? I have so many more hehe

Yeah, I didn't see any bridgesii. The one in the second to last pic looks like a pachypodium of some sort.

Maybe its some Adenium obesum. They´re lovely.

Thanks guys!! :laugh: Glad you enjoyed them! I will definately be putting more up now once my photo quota comes up again sometime early next week haha. :smile:

And in return to your questions, here are the answers :smile:

The 1st pic is Tephrocactus Articulatis "Papyracanthus" It comes from Argentina and breaks off VERY VERY easily as you will see a few of the heads growing next to my aquired San Pedro :laugh:

The Bluish cactus is Pilosocereus Pachycladus I really need to repot this one!

The second to last pis is Adenia Glauca - "Passionfruit lump plant". It has scented cream flowers with orange fruits that has posionous seeds :laugh: Not to be eaten unfortunately hehe

And the last pic is Frithia Pulchra. A lovely looking specimen that responds well to fertilising during summer times.

Oh yes and my mistake, I don't have a Brigesii, It's called Golden confusion as its specific origins around S.America aren't known, hence the 'confusion' part..

Can't wait to put up more! Thanks for the input guys. This is my first time growing poppies too, so I hope they turn out decent enough in these grow bags. The diametres of the bags are 10 inches and 10 inches down which is the recommended size for growing in pots :smile:

5 of those are native to South Africa. (Where I live.)
I am disappoint to see no peyote. Why doesn't anyone have peyote. We have to save the specie and grow thousands. I want to have 5000 peyote one day...
