has anyone had problems over shaking jars? the reason i'm doing it is because i want the other whole grain jars to catch up with others.

Can repeatedly being battered about the head be a problem?
Hell -- yes.
Shake once around 10 -- 15% colonization. That should be enough.
Shaking much more, simply batters the myc & then the myc requires a few days to recover -- before it starts growing again.

so basically, i can shake a jar that colonising way to fast compared to the others to slow it down so the others can catch up?
will over beating cause contams? or lost of moisture?

how does a jar colonize too fast? more like the others are too slow. if i was to slow a jar down i would give it less heat

i agree. battering a 100% colonized jar won't slow it down. it's already 100%, right? it isn't going anywhere. If you're afraid of early fruiting, keep it dark and cool. but traumatizing the mycelium isn't going to do much good for anything.

put the jar in the fridg if you`re soo concerned it`s going to start fruiting. `ve left jars in the incubator while others colonise for 2 weeks. WHy are you worried?

The first jar fully colonised in 6 days, the rest are finally catching up, but by 75 percent only. Im worried that primordia will eventually set in the first jar before i get a chance to case it while waiting for the other jars to fully colonise for spawn to substrate use.
derralyd, if what you say about leaving your jars (fully colonised) in the incubator for 2 weeks for later use is true, then thanks for the advice =)

I some times have a problem getting my seed out of the jars when left to colonize to long. If your not careful you could be digging your grain out with a spoon....

If it is not colonized into a solid mass, you HAVE to dig out with a spoon, it is not 100% colonized.

i find that the more times you shake grain, the more chance of contams you'll get.

well, so far in 8 days i shook all jars 4 times, they look very healthy still (knock on wood) now its seems like all the jars are finally catching up with each other. yay! the jars are about 90 percent colonised, one is at 100 percent
