who is your favorite politician?
    #9102062 -

I would have to say Arnold Schwarzenegger is my favorite politician.

Who is your favorite politician?

"If we could sniff or swallow something that would, for five or six hours each day, abolish our solitude as individuals, atone us with our fellows in a glowing exaltation of affection and make life in all its aspects seem not only worth living, but divinely beautiful and significant, and if this heavenly, world-transfiguring drug were of such a kind that we could wake up next morning with a clear head and an undamaged constitution - then, it seems to me, all our problems (and not merely the one small problem of discovering a novel pleasure) would be wholly solved and earth would become paradise." - Aldous Huxley

that brings up a good question

dead or alive?

I do admire the social liberal/fiscal conservative model that AS aspires to, but I don't think that he actually lives up to my ideal model of what that should look like.

Good question, lets say both.

My favorite politician that is alive, Arnold Schwarzenegger.

My favorite politician that is dead, Ronald Reagan.

Thomas Jefferson, dead

Ron Paul, alive,  prolly, though I could probably find someone better if I looked

Both only for political things, not as a person or anything like that...

And I love coaster's continuing support for ron paul, yet willingness to vote for obama and support the many things obama supports.  Amazing.  Cognitive dissonance much?

Quote:
Coaster said:
i support him (obama) b/c hes for higher qualified teachers and understands that in order for someone to be deemed good at something you need to test them
thats a key difference that says a lot about them
also Mccain is cool with spending 10 billion a month for a horrendous futile war in iraq
and Obama isn't

(Obama continuosly supports the war and votes to continue funding)

And he says he like ron paul?  What would ron paul do w/ regards to "higher qualified teachers" and tests?  Nothing, I guarentee it.  He'd work to eliminate such mandates.

----

I really don't care for folks that have unclear philosophies, and that includes most modern politicians.  Compromise is understandable and fine, but you should make known your philosophy.

What does Obama want?  What does McCain want?  i don't know on either... and what I do know is conflicted to a point that they can't have any philosophical underpinning

Obama:  How does zealous defense of the equal protection and the first amendment (to some extent) jive with supporting the fairness doctrine and highly progressive taxes?  How does "opposing the war" jive with voting continuosly to fund it (everything in his power to support it) and not, say, at least trying to only provide for defense of the troops in funding bills and not extend hositilities?  How does opposing abusive corprate practices jive with federalizing healthcare and worsening the ludicrous (compared to the free market) sums paid to medicine-related industries and labor?

McCain:  How does conservatism jive with restricting personal choices on gay marriage at the state level and drug use at any level?  How does a federalist philosophy jive with further evisceration of the commerce clause?  How does limiting taxes jive with supporting a huge porked-out mortgage-related products purchase and auction?  How does conservatism and limited federal entanglements (as well as federalism) jive with taxing health benifits I may not even want- but am required to recieve through my employment?

And none of these guys address the elephant in the room, to me, that is drug prohibition and further federal medical controls.  I'd really like to see a philosophically rigorous defense of drug prohibition, or any of the above, from any of these candidates that support such (both) with evidence-backed statements.  Given the amount of money we spend on this I think it would be nice to see.

Jessie Ventura. I wish I could clone him and elect him into every office tommorow.

He has the same common sense and honest disposition as RP who is my 2nd fav. Ventura is much better at Public speaking though.

He was on C-Span last night stating that he may consider running as an Independent in 2012 IF
the supporters well up in the Liberty movement started by RP and if they stay behind his back all the way through.

He has a new book out called " Don't Start the Revolution without Me. "

Sure to be an enlightening read.

:maple: :potleaf:Marc Emery :potleaf: :maple:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marc_Emery

Marc Scott Emery (born February 13, 1958) is a Canadian cannabis and libertarian activist, as well as a former cannabis seed seller. United States government officials have described Emery as a drug dealer[1][2][3][4] for his efforts to cultivate and sell marijuana products nationally and abroad. He is the publisher of Cannabis Culture magazine. He ran for mayor of the city of Vancouver in 1996 and 2002. He is sometimes called the Prince of Pot.

He is formerly a retailer of Cannabis seeds for cultivation, having started Marc Emery Direct Marijuana Seeds in 1995, which he ran until it was closed by a raid by Vancouver police acting on the request of the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) on July 29, 2005.

He currently faces extradition to the United States. As of January 14, 2008, Marc Emery has agreed to a tentative plea-bargain with U.S. authorities. The terms of the agreement are a 5-year prison term to be served in both Canadian and U.S. prisons.[5] In return, he is demanding the charges against his friends Michelle Rainey and Greg Williams be dropped.[6] On March 27, 2008 the plea-bargain deal collapsed because of the refusal of the Canadian government to approve its side of the arrangement.[7]

I can never give him credit for being the best president/politician since he won on a split ticket and the country kind of sort of went into a major civil war during his administration.  Maybe if he had freed the slaves and resolved the other differences through legislation without the whole war deal, I'd have to give him the credit.
