mycobag growth question

So SWIMS mycobag is starting to show signs of life. However, SWIM will be out of the country for a month and was wondering if anyone knew how long it usually takes from first signs of life to 100 percent colonization and time for fruiting. SWIM was planning on getting someone to mix the bag in 2 weeks. SWIM is hoping to fruit in a month. Does this seem like it will work or is that waiting to long to fruit.

did you inject in the middle? (thats a big no-no)
were you sterile? (common problems)
you do need to mash them like every couple of days as well for a fast colonization like that to fruiting.

I injected in the middle then mixed it very well. I was going to wait to mix again till it looked like 25 percent colonized (thats what my bag instructions said to do). I was sterile I think.


One question I have is if its fully colonized and I keep it dark will it be ok for a few weeks at which time should I be able to fruit or would I be better dunking then trying. Thanks

Well like ive said your supposed to inject on the plastic wall,inside of the bag to cover more surface area for the spores to colonize. You may not grow anything at all, its really imo a 50/50 chance; i mean its funny because i made the same mistake a few days ago but am seeing signs of life.

you see, you can agree that psilocybin mushrooms are quite different than other mushrooms that are legal correct? so there are different methods you know? psilocybe cubensis is a rhizomorphic colonizer (which means to grow in strands connected somewhat)

but i must say i disagree with your decision to simply leave them there for a few weeks and have someone else shake it for you potentially ruining all of your work in seconds. mycobags need love too you know? i left on in my closet like that it gre but it died in 4 weeks when i returned. im only trying to warn you because failure really sucks when growing mushrooms right? i hope i provided some insight to your operation and do feel free to stay with the site; i personally go there everytime im on the computer which isnt much but the same point applies you know haha? good luck

So would you suggest mixing daily? Both bags are showing increasing signs of mycelin so I think I am good there I just dont know how often to mix (At most I can on weekends since I will be away

not exactly i mean there nothing wrong with doing so as long as its not too hard to obstruct their little mushie grow process there you know? but i wait two to three days and mash when i see new signs of mycelium and stop mashing at about 75 percent colonization as to not harm the colonization. the weekends would be an excellent time to mash so try that! how many times have you grown before i guess at least twice.

I've seen quite a few mycobags injected right into the middle that have colonized just fine.

FOAF had one that colonized about 70% in the middle, decided to crumble the myc a bit, shake the bag and let it re-grow....came out just fine.

when the bags are 100 percent done colonizing can they be in 24 hour light to fruit or is 12 on 12 off light crucial to fruit?

oh then we obviously have two different sources of info but is it really ok to shake the bag or mash it daily? im just kind of cloudy on that matter.

no you dont wantr to do it daily. in the beginning when you see growth you want to mash it around to distribute the newly growth of mycelium so that it can help speed up colonization. after than id let it be until your around 75 % fully colonized then mash again. thats it. your only mashing so that you can distribute the mycelium around for equal colonization throughout the bag. too much mashing damages mycelium. it gets damaged every time you mash but then regrows it mycelial network again. the less mashing, the less stess on the mycelium. but it is necessary for fast even growth to mash a few times.

So it has been 4 weeks now since injection. Swim injected the bag and then let it sit for 3 weeks. After the 3rd week swim mixed the bag. Swim then checked on the bag today and noticed that SWIM saw a lot more condensation and that the substrate had went from being very soft like sand to something a little firmer and moister feeling (there is also a good amount of white). SWIM was worried the bag was to dry but it is like all the moisture has now come out of hiding now that the mycelin is growing. Swim will mix again in two days and then hopefully in 2 weeks he will be ready to fruit. Any suggestions are always appreciated. SWIM thinks its going in the right direction.

I think it should have been or should only be mixed this 1 time and fruiting within 2 weeks max...

but thats just me

SWIM does not know why swims timeframe is off. It is what is actually happening to SWIM. SWIM injected and mixed, let sit for 3 weeks, mixed, now 1 week of sitting and SWIM thinks  that swim should mix once more before leaving it for 2 weeks. After that its fruit time SWIM HOPES. :confused:
