Ah, my friend's monkey thanks you. He wasn't sure if he should have let the mycellium further colonize the casing before transplanting it ino the terrarium.

I dont touch the stuff . . .

Actually, morlahere is more right than wrong. These early " volunteers" should be removed to ensure a more even and fuller flush.

thanks puscle.

but just to clarify it for him, he should remove the pins and sprinkle some casing on the removal points then place back in the terrarium, not in the colonising tray. is that right??

how do you store casing material for this purpose? do you make a bunch up, store it and then only sterilize/pasteurize what you need for the spot casing? or can you store it somehow and keep it sterile? i've never been able to figure this out and am always too lazy to mix a new batch of casing just for the patching.

that's a really good question miles.
i'm like you and am too lazy to make up a tiny batch of casing to do this as well.
i have made 50/50 casing and left some of it for later so as to be able to patch but it turned to shit before i could use it.
i suppose thinking about it, i should leave a portion dry and wet it when need.
i wonder if plain verm would be o.k. to use as a casing repair for composite casing mixes?
it'd be interesting to know what others do/think.

That`s right, m. I`ve pasteurized casing mix and left it in a tupperware for up to two weeks without probs.
