They are agents, yes.  But in this case, their agency cannot be considered to legally reflect on the NPO because their actions were flagrantly illegal and not at the behest of the organization itself.

It's open and shut, so stop bashing a company that is a force of good, and please just criticize the individuals.

> The employees that were paid were TEMP Workers.

Convenient scapegoat.  So was there lack of training given to the temp workers, or was there a motivation that encouraged them to break the law?

(First off, the fact that they were temp workers only strengthens my agency argument, removing legal liability from the main company.)

But that's a moot point when we look at motivation.  Since there's no demonstrable manner in which this "voter fraud" could actually effect the election manually, and that the workers themselves could have no commission or other incentive by the company to do so, there are few remaining options.

One, the main company could require workers to sign people up in order to say that they have higher numbers, in order to receive funding.  This strategy doesn't make sense, since the chances of them getting caught are absolute.

Two, the workers were making misguided attempts with whatever ill-conceived motive you can think of.  This is the most likely option.

The third, and so far unmentioned option.  The Republicans paid these individuals to initiate voter fraud so that they could use soft money to tie up the organization with litigation in key battleground states such as Michigan, where the signing up of poor, ethnic voters would make the difference in the election.  Hell, it's so obvious, I'm surprised I'm the first one to think it up.

Deliberately temp.  Just out of curiosity, if there is a continuing and pervasive pattern of temporary workers (or any others) violating the law, as here, do you (supernovasky and Ferris) not hold those in charge to account?  Because if these were some random mad cows being tasered at a slaughterhouse you would probably be demanding that the CEO be executed.

ACORN + RICO = ZAPPAWOOD.  Boing.

I don't see how they can be anything other than temp workers now that I think of it.  ACORN may have a handful of full-time employees to receive donations and such.  But due to the nature of elections, it's not like one can make a career out of signing up voters.

Oh really?

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/cross_tabs/2008/07/the_truth_about_acorn.html

Quote:
ACORN is a nonprofit group whose goal is to register new voters and other activism efforts to help low income groups. Ostensibly. Mostly it is a leftist organization that wishes to put more liberal politicians in office. It has been involved in several voter registration scandals for its loose system that actually encourages phony registration because they pay low income people per person registered which provides those workers to submit phony names. Most recently it was involved in the biggest case ever of voter registration fraud in Washington state. While ACORN and the Washington prosecutors deny that ACORN officials were directly involved, their system of pay per registration only encourages such fraud. John Fund reported on this last year.

And:

Quote:
Of the 1,805 names submitted by Acorn, only nine have been confirmed as valid, and another 34 are still being investigated. The rest--over 97%--were fake.

Do you even try to ascertain facts or just make up any shit that comes to mind?  Like I said earlier, you have all the characteristics of a troll.

I think that article sources that fact from very old news.  ACORN has long since realized the legal liability of that form of payment.

By the way, that RealClearPolitics article zap links is excellent. There is much, MUCH more at the link, including many reference links that in themselves are real eye-openers. You really should go to the link and read it all.

It is abundantly clear to anyone who wishes to be even a little bit honest with themselves that ACORN is (and has been for a very long time) a thoroughly corrupt organization dedicated to winning elections for Democrats through fraudulent methods.

That article is from July 2008.  RealClearPolitics doesn't often get their facts wrong.  If you have something else then please share it.  Super isn't likely to.

Mark my words, if the organization itself is ever convicted of illegal activity, then I will thoroughly apologize, including a 500 word essay on why I'm a moron and don't understand anything about law or politics. :strokebeard:

Felony charges filed against 7 in state's biggest case of voter-registration fraud

By Keith Ervin
Seattle Times staff reporter

King and Pierce County prosecutors filed felony charges today against seven people who allegedly committed the biggest voter-registration fraud in state history.

The defendants, who were paid employees and supervisors of ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, concocted the scheme as an easy way to get paid, not as an attempt to influence the outcome of elections, King County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Satterberg said.

"This was an act of vandalism upon the voter rolls of King County," Satterberg said.

In addition to filing criminal charges, Satterberg said state and local officials had signed a five-year agreement with ACORN that requires the organization to beef up its training and procedures for detecting and reporting fraud.

ACORN agreed to pay King County $25,000 for its investigative costs and acknowledged that the national organization could be subject to criminal prosecution if fraud occurs again.

"Ladies and gentlemen, this is the worst case of voter-registration fraud in the history of the state of Washington. There has been nothing comparable to this," state Secretary of State Sam Reed said at a news conference with Satterberg, King County Executive Ron Sims and Acting U.S. Attorney Jeff Sullivan.

ACORN President Maude Hurd said in a statement, "It appears that a handful of temporary workers were trying to get paid for work they hadn't actually done. While we don't think the intent or the result of their actions was to allow any ineligible person to vote, these employees defrauded ACORN and imposed a burden on the time and resources of registrars and law enforcement."

The announcement of criminal charges came after the King County Canvassing Board revoked 1,762 allegedly fraudulent voter registrations submitted by ACORN employees.

Senior Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Stephen Hobbs told the board that six ACORN workers had admitted filling out registration forms with names they found in phone books last October. The canvassers filled out the forms while sitting around a table at the downtown Seattle Public Library, Hobbs said.

County prosecutors charged the six canvassers with one to eight counts each of filing false information on voter registration, and charged a supervisor with providing false information and making a false statement to a public official.

Two of the ACORN workers were also charged in Pierce County with submitting 55 phony registrations.

ACORN canvassers in other states also have been the subject of investigation.

This has been proven to be a lie. They do not pay per registration.

ACORN workers are paid hourly.

Do you even try to ascertain facts, or do you just make up shit that comes to mind?

Here are the REAL numbers of voters successfully registered by ACORN:

So less than 1% of their applications have been fraudulent. Pretty good track record considering the number of temp workers. But to claim that 97% are fake is false.

97% of those in Washington were fake.  Fake.  97%.  Fake fraudulent phony bullshit nonsense lies.  Reading comprehension is fundamental.

What is that map?  Where did it cone from?  Why is there no link?  Me accusing you of being a troll is not an ad hominem.  It is becoming more and more clear that it is a fact.

Well, I do remember ACORN filing a lawsuit asking if they could pay their workers less than minimum wage as part of their hourly pay.  It's probably on their wiki if you want to fact check.
