A Quick Question about this casing
    #902102 - 09/23/02 04:09 PM (21 years, 4 months ago)

OK this horse poo casing has been colonizing for 5 days, and it appears to me that its been covered with mycelium, a few places weaker than other places...
look at this pic...

You think its ready to be cased with 50/50?

If it were me, I would be patient and allow the poo to be fully colonized before I cased it.

I'd wait a few more days.....just to make sure that it is fully colonized.

Looking good btw!

got to love the poo!

What could go wrong if it was cased now?

I would argue that there is a slight chance the uncolonized portions could become contaminated during the casing process.

Don?t forget that this is pasteurized substrate. It?s fairly resistant to contamination.

I agree. Still, there is more risk when casing substrates that are not fully colonized.

I?d say the risk is no greater than exposing the substrate to room air.

I prefer to err on the side of caution. My locale tends to have very high mold spore counts.

I agree with Anno 100%. Case now dude, there's no harm.. the casing layer covers the substrate anyway and by the time you expose it to light and start the pinning phase the substrate will totally be colonized. Make sure you nuke your casing mix in the micro for 10 minutes first though.

It looks great by the way! Keep us posted with pictures in the picture forum or grow log forum! You're going to have one hell of a first flush from what it looks like. What strain is it?

I think the grow log is a great idea, but it would make more sense to create a new post in the grow log forum.  That's what it's there for..
