cleaning case/substrate off stalks.

whats the best way to clean off the casing.. substrate (rye grain in this case) left on the stalk after harvest..

it bruises them when theyre fresh i find..

Well i usually let it dry with the casing on there. Then I just scrape it off with my fingers. Ive never really heard much about this subject, I dont think there is much else you can do. I wonder what you do if you've got like 1,000 shrooms tho? :smile:
That would take a while to scrape each individual one off....

I'd also like to know how people handle this. I harvested a good size batch over the weekend, threw it on newspaper to fan dry for a while before tossing in the chamber. When I picked up the newspaper, there was a billion little bits of casing all over my brand new carpet, blown off the babies while drying. Would it hurt to rinse the stalk of the shroom before beginning the drying process?

I pondered the same question this morning when I harvested my first mini-flush of B+ from a cake. They had vermiculite on the bottoms and a couple of flakes on the stalks. I just brushed the stuff off as best I could.

I took a shoe box and cut the bottom out.. filled the bottom in with a screen .. put shrooms on screen.. put a second screen on box top.. set shrooms on my box fan all day and night... result is cracker dry shrooms and no substrate in my carpet or room

ill tell you the best way to do it.... let them get cracker dry by drying on a box fan first with the substrate material on.... then take a sharp knife or razor blade and scrape off the substrate, when there dry it comes right off... kind of like "widdling" on sticks.... if you do it before there dry you'll bruise the hell out of them

Try a used soft bristle tooth brush. It's quick and easy, plus it gets into all the little "nooks and crannys".

By the way.... this works best when they are dry.
