A Prediction...
    #898531 - 09/21/02 10:12 PM (21 years, 6 months ago)

... that doesn't predict is not a prediction.

I know it sounds silly when I say it like that, but people ALL TOO OFTEN look to the Bible, Nostradamus, Sylvia Browne, Edgar Cayce, et al; AFTER a significant event has happened, then somehow make it fit some nebulous passage.

I will say it one more time, if it doesn't predict, it isn't a prediction.

To predict according to Webster is to "make known in advance". In advance people. Not after the fact.

Also predicting evrything you can think of and then being proud of what you are correct on is not predicting. (e.g doomsday has been unsuccesfully predicted millions of times now)

I don't think events are totally fixed, but I do think that some things are "highly probable" to happen. When someone makes a prediction that doesn't happen, that does not necessarily discredit the predictor, it only shows that anything can happen...

Of course not. When your doctor diagnoses you with a heart condition and you have cancer, that doesn't mean he is a quack. It fact, it gives him even MORE credence.

there is always room for human error. I make errors, and you make errors. Well wait, you are...well, a robot...arent you? Anyways, that is why you always get a second opinion when it comes to doctors.

if i were to write down a bunch of vague predictions now, for the future, knowing what the future may be like, then many people in the future would say i was the man if my predictoins was somewhat correct. no, i dont believe any man can tell whats in store after this second has elapsed....to do so would nullify free-will, wouldnt it?

Why do you even bring this up? Calling some future pope "the glory of the olive" is hardly a prediction nor is "from the toil of the sun". This can be applied in a thousand ways and says NOTHING.

I predict something blue will have significance to you in the coming years.

omg, did you make this prediction a few years ago? cause like, I had a dream involving the color blue which changed my life
you are so fucking psychic, man
even if you just made it, it's still a great prediction, it's like, prediction of the past, yeah!

I'm annoying? Why don't you post one of his exact descriptions of the Pope's name, age, country of origin and when he reigned. "Blue of Moon" or whatever doesn't count in my book.
