MOST important aspect to PFTEK jars!

Not sure where this belongs, but it hasn't been mentioned nearly enough!

For all the newbies out there following the PFTEK 1/2 pint jar tek-- When you are innoculating, make a WIDE and DEEP sweeping motion with the syringe to cover as much space as possible in each of the four innoculation points.

I cannot tell you how much this helps! A lot of people experienced stalled jars, I believe the reason for this is because they simply push the syringe down and innoculate, leading to longer incubation and colonization times, leading to a buildup of co2.

Within the first 7 days I noticed about a 3x increase compared to the jars that had not been 'sweep innoculated.'

thanks for the tip. ill try that method in 2 of the 4 jars and note the results :smile:

will that increase chance of contams? do I sweep in a 360 degree motion, like move the needle around as I drip spores?

No... just along the glass... basically what you are trying to do is to spread the spores along as much of the substrate as possible... I think people worry about contams too much-- you should be fine.. good luck

not sure if this is what you mean, but i kinda drag it up as i push down. but usually mine dont flow as easily so it just comes out in a big squit which spreads it out pretty evenly. one time i had growth spots about an inch or 1/2 inch away from the innoc point.
