Made 12 jars using the PF tek and innoculated with B+ spores. The first signs of germination occured after 5 days, but most of the jars took 10 days to germinate. Lost 2 jars to green mold in the first 5 days.

And then today. I had noticed about a week ago that there was a "red tint" in a lot of the jars. The tint was fairly light, not bright, and did not appear to grow in size or change at all. Today I threw out the remaining 10 jars. The red tint had gotten much darker, in some spots turning almost a bright orange. A few jars had some lipstick mold growing in them. Every jar smelled like old gym socks. A couple jars had some nasty looking yellow globs in them. The globs looked like little bumpy and slimy yellow balls.

Funny thing is, there were no signs of more green mold. Isn't green mold supposed to be the most common contaminant? Looks like I got everything except green mold.

damn that sucks!
I'm on my first try, B+ also... began w/ 12 jars : lost one jar to green shit, one did not get contaminated but simply did not grow anything and 2 cakes stalled so i tried to case them and something bacterial got into it so they were trashed. But 8 are beginning fruiting now... they are just about 3 weeks behind "normal" (whatever that is... very late to germinate, 8 days or so! but i just got some TCs and they've taken even more, 11 days, so i think my mixture is off some.) In all it's been about 7 weeks.
Are you using a pressure cooker to sterilize the jars? If not, it might be time to borrow or buy one! It's worth it.
Dump out the jars and try again... i know it must be depressing not having success, but it is a learning process. Contamination in the jars means that the jar sterilization process and inoculation process need to be revised to be cleaner. Don't give up! :smile:

tell us what we did and maybe we can pinpoint your prob. Id be willing to bet that it has something to do with your pastuerization time.

I'm betting it was a combination of a bunch of things. First mistake was getting high before mixing the substrate and pasturizing it. Second was boiling for 45 minutes instead of using a pressure cooker. Third was not flaming the needle between innoculations (I opted to wipe the needle with an alcohol pad after each innoculation, instead).

1. Getting high before doesn't seem like a problem to me.
2. What did you pasturize? You were making pf style jars right?
3.you should have boiled longer, or gotten a pressure cooker.
4. Fuck flaming the needle inbetween innoculations. It's not needed. What kinda contam can live through 99% isopropyl alchohol? none thats what.

Well all the "red spots" that appeared and took over appeared origionall at a site of innoculation, so it seems logical that they were introduced during innoculation.

Get a presuure cooker from Walmart bro... around $20 for a small on that will do 4 jars. PC for full hour with all the weights on.. or 15 lbs. Flame that needle too.... If you keep failing because of skipping these steps you will get very frustrated with the whole hobby.It will all be worth it in the end

Getting high isn't a problem... unless you can't handle your high!!!

You didn't boil your jars long enough.....for 1.

I also think you might have had unsterile conditions....for 2.
Clean the living shit out of everything....then use lysol in the air.

Yeah i don't think flaming a needle is the problem......I have done both ....flaming and just wiping the needle with 99% isopropyl alchohol between each jar.
I haven't seen much difference.

CleaN!!!! Im a new shroomer myself, I did 23 jars so far and didnt have to throw any out what so ever. This is what I did, first I  turned the furnace off because of blowing dust, cleaned the whole room I was working in...dusted, sweep, mop, wash walls, everything...then I sprayed a whole f*@#ing can of lysol in the air of the room...then I grabed my hepa filter and cranked it full bast, in the meantime I took a shower, dried myself off with a clean towel and put on clean clothes, sprayed the clothes lightly with lysol as well...put my dustmask on...turned the hepa off ...wiped my hands and arms with 99% Alcohol constantly, after every 2nd or 3rd jar...all this was done over an open oven because the rising heat would blow away any last remains of contams...I always flamed my needle cuz I like fire (which reminds me to warn you to be carefull with lysol and alcohol around the stove) ....and once your done the jars, put them in your incubator. If you follow this you will NEVER get a contam...23 out of 23 so far for me :smile:

two things would have made a world of difference.
use of the oven tek,
and longer pastuerization times...i used to stove top pastuerize for an hour-hour 10 depending. 45 will leave all sorts of bad things in your substrate. PC isnt absolutely essential, just be sure to cover your pot and leave them in until youre sure that nothing on earth could survive it.

Whenever my jars got a contam. growing in it, it was always a dark yellow mold, never green mold or any other color of mold
