Be more selfish...

Recently I've come to the conclusion that people are way too eager to receive the praise and acceptance of others. 

My roommate constantly runs things by me as if seeking my permission before performing even the most trivial tasks.  For some reason this really pisses me off?

I have always been kind of an independent person, and I really value the feeling of self worth.  When people seek the approval of others all the time, it honestly makes me pity them.  It just seems so degrading to lack any arrogance/selfishness.  If you spend all your time trying to get people to like you, you'll just end up doing the opposite.

The people I know that exhibit this type of behavior are the ones that are always getting used.

You can say things like, "it's other people that need to change because I'm just a nice person", but in the end you're just letting yourself be the tool. 

I can shed my ego when needed, but, in my opinion, an ego is not something to waste.  Our world can be cruel, and I think our egos were designed to combat this.  I understand how someone would want to be a "good person", but why be nice when a sense of superiority makes you so much more content? 

maybe it's just the fact that my opioid receptors are making me selfish or something...

*Am I turning into gregory house, or is there others out there that sympathize?

Yeah, I periodically go through a phase where I'm like "Fuck this, I'm tired of wanting approval. I'm gonna do whatever the fuck I wanna do". I'm in the middle of one of those phases right now, and I gotta tell ya, its nice.

didnt you say you took some opiates tonight?

I think opiates really do make this feeling very prominent.  Kratom for me currently, and I'm lovin it.

I need to care less most of the time. I know exactly where you are comming from. I try to be super nice to everyone, and people try to use me. They get bit when they do, but they wouldn't try if i was a little more assertive.

Oh yes, opiates let me tell it like it is! I love that about them, I gave some to my friend and he called me up an hour later and was like "Hey dude these are great! I went through my contacts list on my phone and told all the people that I don't really like but pretend to, to go fuck themselves!" LOL

think about how black people live.  They don't go sucking everyones dick to try to be their friends.  Respect means more to them than niceness, and that's how I prefer it.  As long as everyone is reasonable about it.

I'm not advocating acting like an asshole, just respect yourself and others will respect you.

there are plenty of nice people, who dont seek approval for trivial things.

I just get annoyed when people cant think and do for themselves, its like "stop bugging me, just do what you got to do and leave me out of it"

then theres the opposite end of the spectrum, people who are just over the top selfish. i do think selfish and self centered are two different things though.

I find that its good to treat people with respect, but you still have to look out for number 1.

what do you fear will happen if someone is offended by you?  just curious to know what the idea behind this is.

it might help to realize why you feel that way.  That way you can think about it rationally and change for the better, if you believe the new way to be right that is.
