Fleeing the country?
    #8967316 -

Bear with me, here's what happened:

about 2 and a half weeks ago, I drank a 5th of vodka and popped a bunch of xanax. Now I do not remember doing these things because I was very inebriated, but i apparently tried to hang myself with the garage door and a belt, so my brothers subdued me and called the police and ambulance. I'm not suicidal and do not even remember this. Also, while the police were supervising me with the paramedics, I spit at at least one of them, and am now being charged with -Assault on an LEO (Police Officer).- Once again i do not remember spitting at the cop. Anyways, after staying under intense supervision in the local hospital, they sent me to a mental health facility to be observed for a lil over a week, now I'm back out.  Now I imagine, since it was an LEO i 'assaulted', i'll have at least 3-5 years if found guilty.  I'm going to talk to my attorney today, to find out what the scoop is, just got the ticket in the mail ...

If it doesnt' look good, and there's a good chance i have to do prison time, I plan on going to another country. How long would I have to stay in said country before I can come back and not be charged with this crime, or imprisoned.

I envy you.  But seriously is there a law of sorts that would make me a free man after a certain amount of time spent in Mexico or Jamaica?

I wouldn't worry too much, unless you have a pretty nasty criminal history.  If this is your first time in trouble, they are going slap your wrist.  Probably end up in some kind of alcohol awareness class and perhaps unsupervised probation.  You attorney can probably get it talked down into almost nothing or suspended sentence, again, assuming you haven't been in trouble in the past.

I've got a DUI last year, and several years ago charged with possesion of marijuana. I've also fought off an agravated battery case, hopefully that dismissed charge won't be a pile of shit in the corner of the court room. I am fairly sure I can fight this case off, my attorney is a good one. However I need a plan B.

The only way the time would "run out" on these charges is if you were never charged with the offense.  The statute of limitations on specific offense varies by state, but it only applies to the period of time prior to charges being filed.

Hey, I've got a crazy idea. Why don't you own up to being a douchebag and take what's coming?

You'll probably get a reduced sentence on a plea bargain anyway.

:whack:

Yeah, don't be stupid, its probably not going to amount to much, even with your priors.  As far as fleeing goes, for that kind of crime, the next state over is often far enough.

Spitting on a cop while trashed - take the time

Shooting a cop while trashed - okay, leave the country

Just cop it man. You'd be in less shit for copping it, than fleeing the country.

Why 5th Vodka & a load of Xanax in the first place?

if you flee make sure you go to a country where they can't extradite you, for say don't go to Mexico or Canada, but your options are like Iraq and Iran, places like that
