Help! I have a friend that is taking way to much vicodin

a friend of mine recently broke his jaw, and had it wired shut, he was prescribed liquid vocodin for this,
750 mg hydrocodone and 500 Mg APAP (acetaminophen) per 15 ml , his bottle was 400 ML

he has taken about 2/3 of this bottle down in 2 days, which is a hefty overdose of APAP about 23 grams (over 10 grams a day)

and to be honest i dont know how he can tolerate that much hydrocodone.

he is also drinking on a nightly basis......

from what i understand, and PLEASE correct me if i am wrong, this mixture WILL cause liver failure in a short period of time.

i do not want to see my friend die.


So please, either refute my calculations, or give me some advise on what to do,

i tell him that this is dangerous, and he just says that it hurts, and dismisses me.

i dont know what to do.....

Tell him that if he wants to keep his internal organs, he needs to get the APAP out of that shit. Seriously.

I dont know what to tell you cuz your giving my skewed info

750mg hydrocodone and 500mg APAP per 15 ml?  No such prescription exists.

Are you sure its not 7.5mg hydrocodone/500mg APAP? That would make much more sense. I'm not familiar with liquid though...

Likely 7.5  Either way, your friend needs help.  I just had a close friend of mine die from liver failure from APAP.  She took way too many pills in a short amount of time from what we thought was intentional. She laid in the hospital in a coma and went through four liver transplants that didn't work.  You need to have a serious talk with your friend.  Tell him to remove the APAP.  Also, you may want to seriously think about getting him back to a hospital before anything serious happens.  I remember meeting you and you're a great person, I'd hate to see you suffer from what me and my friends did.

Yeah he got Syrup Lortab or commenly refered to in hip-hop as "sizzurp", its 7.5mg 500mg apap i got it for a bad cough i had this spring.  I took down the bottle in about 5 days, APAP is not good for liver and shouldnt be consumed that often.

You must mean 7.5 mg hydrocodone.  I could be wrong but my quick math says theres only 13.3 grams of APAP in the entire 400mL bottle.

400mL / 15mL = 26.7 doses in the bottle

26.7 doses x 500mg APAP per dose = 13,350mg of APAP

13,350 mg / 1000mg = 13.35 grams of APAP total

Lets say he goes through 1/3 of the bottle each day since he got it, thats only about 4.5 grams of APAP a day.  Thats not too bad.

Someone let me know if my math is wrong. I could be way off, I've always been terrible with math but this is pretty simple stuff here.

4.5 grams wouldn't be terrible if it were just one day... but this is three days in a row, with alcohol involved.  That dude's liver could be in some serious jeopardy.

I think 4 grams of APAP is like a daily limit for safe consumption. Three days of that isn't all that much. That guy is gonna be ok.  Alcohol sure isn't gonna help, but based on the amount of APAP his liver should be just fine.  The OP's math was off, this isn't really an issue.

You're right, his math was a bit off.  4 grams is the daily limit and he has been at about 4.1  With the alcohol that isn't necessarily an excellent choice, but not as threatening as 10+ grams a day.

yeah 4 g's apap ain't so much. Like everyone said its the limit daily. If I'm to lazy to do a CWE Ill do 4 to 4.5 gs every day for 5 to 6 days in a row(with the hydro of course) and I'm not in the E.R. But i don't drink either. Not saying my liver/kidney are in the best of shape but I'm not dead.  I wouldn't worry abut it he will run out very soon.

dude, get him hydromorphone or some other shit that has no apap for the pain cuz it obviously sounds like hes pretty tolerant to hydrocodone.. tell him to stop, hell fuck his liver up man..

n tell him not to drink while on opiates, it will stop his heart..
