9-11 Anniversary, How far have we come?
    #873890 - 09/10/02 07:35 AM (14 years, 3 months ago)

1 year after this tradgedy, what do you feel about whats happening?
1. I feel the US has done all the right things to fight terrorism
2. Military action so far has been good, but we need to also consider Arab relations.
3. I don't think the US has made the world any safer, we haven't made much progress.
4. Things are worse now than they have ever been.
5. It's too early to tell

Why is there curently 38 views, yet I see 69 votes on the poll?

Untill today I thought that America was making progress, for the most part. But after following today's events with the arabic medical students that were acused of plotting a plot to blow up something today 09/13/02 I feel that our relations with arabs has perhaps gone even too negative....

It apears today as if some rather bright medical students were falsly acused of a terriost plot. It was all over the news. The shut down I75 between Tampa/Miami... Had about 100 cops, the vice/bomb sqads etc... They claimed that two of the cars had sitched tags and that one car blew a toll both... In the end all were realesed and I just seen them on tv making there case.

They got into all of this trouble due to a women that was sitting next to them in a restraunt in Georgia. The women claimed that they were laughing about how dumb Americans were for feeling bad about 911, and that one of them said that 911 wasnt nothing compared to 0913... then suposedly made coments about blowing something up today.... In the end the charges of blowing a toll booth without paying and switching license tags were droped aparently 'cuz it wasnt true.... like the REST of the acusations.

America is getting a little to parnoid in regaurds to it's own people that were born and raised here.

What disturbs me most is that the promised help that America and the world said they would give Afghanistan is not there.

People are desperately needing real help to get their country the basics like water, food, housing...

I hope Bush and the world don't forget that poverty and suffering helps make for excellent terrorist breeding grounds.

Most of Afghanistan people love the US and this will quickly change if the US and the world doesn't quickly and decisively help them rebuild and restore the basic human essentials.

This poll can be voted on from the "Entrance", w/o actualy viewing the thread.

Our current and past attitude of foreign relations has and will lead us to many problems. Whether this type of situation is the best of the worst no one knows.

I see so much unrest and violence in our own country, how can we actually think we should police and control other countries?

I really steer clear of politics, as there is seldom an easy answer or a right answer. More often then not, egos are discussing politics, not people w/ sound critical thinking skills.

IMO

what disturbs me is how this whole story of terrorists vs world police is being told to explain to people why we should give our consent to murder people in our name whom we don't know and have never met. all wars, it seems, have to come up with these little stories to explain to the people why we are attacking the enemy of the week. and people believe these stories, because they're mythically great. they're wonderful. we're saving the Afghanistan people from their oppressive government that won't even let them dance!! no dancing! barbarians!! we're stopping that baby killer, Saddam Hitler..uh i mean Hussien. i wish people would just admit that we have nothing to do with this shit. red herrings abound, bullshit flows, the machine grinds on. woo hoo. i think i'll move to the mountains.

I think its deeper than what everyone thinks. look at who we have always gone to war with, countrys with oil and other items that us or other countrys who go in with us whats. each time we go to war the market goes down so does everythink else, and when prices are low on everything you see all the higher up people like bush and high powered people buy buy and buy lots of stuff and make billions.....I think the world is ran by a group, and all the wars are just a front so normal people think there country is ran within the country. The rich get richer and we help them.

its a good idea, it also gives newbies the chance to get to know their fellow shroomites a little before they go off on a voting rampage.

I don't know if we are really winning a war on terrorism. There are many forms of terrorism, from the Taliban, skin heads, disgruntled workers, even "drug users" are proclaimed terrorists on T.V. now a days. But even the war they are fighting in Iraq, is getting harder on not only the soldiers, but on their familys and friends. More attacks, and more dead bodies of the people we love, and don't love. I really don't wish death on my worst enemy, let alone people half way around the earth. But then again it goes back to kill them before they kill you... This is a brain wreaker with me, "War is hell."

I'm gonna lock this poll 'cause it uses the old polling system and no longer works. Feel free to create a new poll on this topic if you desire.
