A friend of mine, who lives in another state w/o a computer, Has innoculated Qt Jars of Organic rye 11 days ago, He can't notice any growth accept a few bursted berries with white slime on the side of the jars. Is this right or is it contam, he says the smell is like a strong rye smell. Anybody?

He has wasted all his spores. You have to be careful when working with grain, if it isn't cooked 'just right', you could waste everything.

Your problem was too much water, which caused burst kernels and other kernals to be close to bursting. They end up seeping and the whole thing turns to a soggy mess.

Thats my theory and I'm sticking to it!

but if it was completely steril, it should have worked anyways. Busted grains are more of an issue when doing grain to grain transfers. It has never caused a contamination loss for me. It just causes the grains to stick which is annoying. Were the jars pressure cooked, or boiled?

tell him to buy a pressure cooker. There is no way to prepare grain without one, boiling simply won't sterilize whole grains. Sorry.

PM me with any cultivation questions.

I just looked at my profile and realized I had a website at one point in time on geocities, it's not there anymore and I have no idea what I had on it. Anybody remember my website from several years aga? PM if so please.
