popcorn colonization question?
    #1410718 - 03/26/03 08:09 AM (13 years, 8 months ago)

a FOAF started his popcorn jars two and half weeks ago. He innoculated 5 pint jars with 2 cc's of creeper spores each. Hes been inccubating at 85 degrees. He started out with really good growth, there was nice white fuzzy myc popping up inbetween the kernals. After five days of this he shookup the jars and after a few days the myc recovered and started growing fuzzy again, after another 5 or so days the jars were shaken again, but when they were shook the myc sortof dissappeared, i assume from some of the water still in the jars. After a day the myc stared to look chalk like, not fluffy at all. its been now 2 1/2 weeks and there is a little but of fuzzy growth but most of the kernals are lightly covered with this chalky looking myc. The kernals are covered with white, but you can still make out the browish color of the kernals. There are still a small amount of kernals that arent covered with this whtie, mostly of the very top and the very bottom. His question is this, is the myc on those kernals going to thicken up and grow in fuller or are those kernals done? it just seems like the myc kinda stopped growing and now theres just this chalkyt white all throughoput my jars, doesnt look like fluffy myc. hes working on trying to take some picture but his camera is fucked up. could someone please post some pics of fully colonized popcorn jars or pics of proper popcorn myc growth so he can compare, my friend would greatly appreciate it. Thanks for your time, peace

It's best to only shake once. My friend has noticed that after full conlonization, he can still see some 'color' from the corn. Hope this helps

Oh sorry,
He sent along this pic and I forgot to post it. It's a fully colonized jar of corn.

thanks for this pic helps a lot, the myc looks like that only its not as thick, i guess just a little more time and my friends jars will look like that. how long does it usually take for a pint of popcorn with creeper in it take to fully colonize?

It might be cobweb mold. Check out the pics section and compare.

i'm pretty sure its not cobwed, cause at the beginning its was def. the nice fluffy stuff, but after i shook it it reappeared on the kernals as a more sold chalky kind of myc. If cobwewb is shook up does it appear like this?
