don't get me wrong, i'd love a community where every accepts a certian level of responsibility for helping his fellow man. it would be great to have that everywhere you went, where people helped you based on the idea that if you were their situation you'd do the same for them. that would be awsome.

problem is that all it takes is one person in that community to see that trust and want to take advantage of it, and manipulate it for their own personal gain. or a divergence of ideas to create a schism in the community where by people say they help anyone, so long as their not a part of THAT sect.

THH think about if in your community some one starts taking advantage of the shared trust. they ask for food, when they don't REALLY need it. they ask you to watch their kids every weekend, but when you need them to do the same one time... ahhh, im busy. and they never do get around to returning the favors everyone has given them. what are you to do the next time they ask for a favor? do you continue to help them unconditionally? or do you stop trusting them and not do them the favor? what if they REALLY do need it this time? kinda creates a boy who cried wolf situation right?

Guess what? You are describing all of my neighbor's until now. I have had plenty of experiences with people taking advantage of my kindness. Some people think that I am stupid because I continue to offer what I can, after people take without returning the favor.

My theory is that at least I know where I stand. And that I will never let someone drag me to lower ground because they don't understand the benefits of helping others or showing gratitude.

What I have found is that there is still karma. If someone asks me for what I have to give, then I will give it. I know that even if that person doesn't come through for me when I am in need, someone will. And this has proven itself to me time and time again.

Those jerks who use others up, have their own karma to deal with, and I am not gonna let them screw mine up!
