Cars are destroying the planet so when you think about it, it really is selfish as shit to use one. Sure slaves are people and cars are machines but suffering is suffering and humanity suffers due to your car. I have one, but then again, I would probably have a slave if I could...

The entire current environmental situation is as fucked up an issue for today as slavery was for its time, I'll give you that, though no...owning a car is not like owning a slave.

Its far more than just cars.  There are PLENTY of other equally detrimental activities going on and some that are worse, many which you perpetuate without even knowing it. It's all part of the fucked up-edness.  Bucking that system requires conscious knowledge that most people don't have and serious effort that most people won't take.  Besides, if anything, you're the car's slave, not the other way around.

So your argument is that driving/owning a car is as bad as slavery but you advocate the death of 6 Billion people.

Show us how much you really believe your philosophy and kill yourself.

We are nature.  If the cosmos didn't want us, it would blot us out from existence on its own.

What's wrong with owning a slave?

The argument makes perfect sense to me. As bad as owning slaves, no, but the parallels are what you have to look at.

How many people die because of cars? How will driving cars look in hundreds of years? Sort of the same kind of anger as people owning slaves? Possibly.

How much pollution do cars cause? What bad habits are brought out in people when they drive cars everywhere?

It isn't an absurd question, it is just a little bit provocative. Theres nothing wrong with that.

I'll go ahead and answer your question.  No, it is not nearly as fucked up.  It is many orders of magnitude less fucked up.  The ownership of another human being is a completely counterintuitive act that is malicious and dehumanizing on any scale.  Driving a car is harmless on its own; it is only destructive on a worldwide scale.  It doesn't hurt any one human (for the most part), it hurts our environment.  Cars and slaves are in no way analogous.

Isn't that, like, bad? At least owning a slave is relatively self-contained.

You could say it's worse. Owning a slave ruins one person's life to convenience another. Owning a car destroys the environment to convenience someone.

Not that we could permanently ruin the planet, even if we tried.

If someone breathes your exhaust fumes and gets cancer because of it, that person's life is ruined for your convenience too.

Except you don't know about it.

Theres more benzene in a gallon of gas than in a lifetime of smoking. And its in there for your convenience. You want cheap gas so the benzene and PCA's aren't taken out.
