I pay $250 a month for a decent, well maintained 1 bedroom in a good neighbourhood...of course, this is also in a small town (less than 30,000 people)

This is in Moreno Valley California... Where there isn't really a middle class. It's like your poor, or wealthy. And if your poor you live in run down gand ridden places... And if you have the money you can get a place like this, although this is on the lower end of the wealthy places. But yeah... It was this or sleeping scared every night.

Damn! Where the hell do you people live where rent is so cheap? I've been apartment searching for a couple weeks now. The average in this town is $1800/month for a 2-bedroom/1-bath. I've been wanting to move off my college campus for a year now but the prices on apts are so jacked up around here it's ridiculous. The goddamn yuppies are raising the price of real estate through the roof! ARRRRRRGH!

yeah...fuckin yuppies.
it's like...if you have a bunch of more affordable housing instead of a scarce amount of expensive housing, you're gonna make more or the same amount of money and everyone's gonna be happy. imagine if everyone could have AFFORDABLE housing. the world would be a much happier place. i don't know...i just think it sucks.

It's obvious you're not a rental property owner.
The more properties you own, the more taxes you pay. The more insurance. The more water bills. The more maintainence costs. If you can make 1000 per month on 1 property or 1000 total on several, you'd be an idiot to have the several.

Holy crap! You could buy your own place here for that kind of money! Are you in California? I've heard real estate prices there are outrageous! Be that as it may, lower rents seem to one (of many) advantages of living in a small town. I don't think I could live in a large city, for many reasons..
