Money

I've tried to get away from this drive to have a bunch of money...  I don't.  I come from a family with money.  They look at me like I'm nuts for thinking that anything is more important than turning my hours into money.  After the mention of Rich Dad Poor Dad in another thread I got to thinking about money again...  I know this is P&S.  I just want maybe some of you to discuss your money philosophies and Spirituality in the context of money and vice versa.  Money...??  What say you, y'ALL...??

Money makes the world go 'round... sad but true.

My stance is that if you want to exist in this society, you must either have money, or be good enough a guy that people will take care of you. Personally, I prefer the security and independence that money can provide.

I figure it's a good sign that our world revolves more around money than kings or priests by this point.

Money is not inherently good or bad. It is something that we in our culture have artificially inflated the value of, to the point where we often value it more than the goods and services it can buy and sometimes more than relationships and communication and other things (of course, that is just a reflection of my own values and not an absolute statement :tongue: ).

However, money can be used in the service of greed, anger, and selfishness, to make the rich richer and the poor poorer; to maintain high unemployment rates and ignore the impoverished and malnourished. Or it can be used in the service of generosity, friendliness, kindness, love, compassion, and selflessness, to help feed the hungry, cloth the poor, nurse the sick, care for the young and old, and heal our wounded world. Money can do both. It all depends on you.

I like free markets and all. Truly I do, at least in general, but there needs to be some kind of oversight in recognition of sustainability. Life works the same way, on a bunch of sustainable systems. Why not honor what made us what we are and take some lessons? Nature FTW!

coming from a family that lives paycheck to paycheck...

money has been a source of greif....and a way of life(doing what you do...to get that money).

Money? The more the merrier. Bring it on. If your excess cash is causing any of you pain and grief, I will PM you an address to mail it too.

Financial stress, worry and pressure sucks the big wad. Not being able to get basic health care, or the means to get you to a job is just a pathetic state for an American to be in.

It really became a top priority after I had my daughter. Children are EXPENSIVE!!!! The older I get (40 now)the more having more of it matters to me. I can't help but wanting my retirement years covered comfortably. At my age, keeping healthy , looking and feeling good physically, being able to eat well and live well-(lower stress more relaxation and play time) takes money.


I didn't write the rules for how the system here works. Money is needed to live well and have more freedoms in it. When you are young, you can have crazy fun living with little and mooching off friends and parents. That doesn't fly when you are older and have children.

I just finished watching Donny Douche on the Big Idea. The topic was how being happy can make you more money. They said the research showed that happier people made more money and were more successful at what they do.

Soooooooo work on being happy first and the money is suppose to follow they said.

Some suggestions they had for being happy-

Take care of your health-exercise and eat well. It's difficult to feel happy when you physically feel like crap. Start there.

Create small goals and regular little successes accomplishing them during the day to feel good about.

Make time to do what you enjoy.

Engage in regular acts of kindness.

Focus on the good things happening every day.

In short, it was staying focused on positive thoughts, feelings and actions.

Donny really is a douche, but his show tosses out a few "pearls," as he calls them, on rare occasions.

Psycho-cybernetics.

Incredibly powerful concept.  Get the book and go from there.  Each of us is capable of achieving personal success and fulfillment.  It goes without saying that we are also capable of being rich as hell.

If you want to throw all that out the window, we all know how great herb is, and with all the fucking geopolitical and economic turds hitting the fan, fine smoke product is hotter than ever, so plan out a big hydroponic grow, eliminate and mitigate your risks, go through a few harvests, save your money, and get out of the biz.  You'll be wealthy at that point.  Don't blow your money.  Be smart and be set for life.  If you don't find yourself slitting throats to avoid assrapes in a prison somewhere, then you are one fortunate motherfucker!

If that's not your cup of tea, then slug it out in college for 4 or 5 years and buy the American Dream, a tried and proven trip.  Or you can piss most of your life away and at the end find yourself greeting inbreds at Wal Mart as you wait to die.

Whichever way you go, be sure to stop often and inhale the Bubonic Chronic, and eat those tryptamine-packed mushrooms for a good, insightful vantage point on your shitty little situation in this crazy life.

I want to add this though. I do believe that the best things in life are free. By best, i mean, moments that have you feeling wanting for nothing more. They seem to come by freely, when open to them.

Some examples-

Sitting on the beach taking in the surf

Being fireside.

Star gazing.

Playing in the puddles after a rain on a warm summer day.

Making love

Hiking in the woods.

Smelling flowers

Listening to great tunes

Laughing and joking with friends

Hugs

Money is not needed to find enjoyable moments in life.

I don't believe it buys anything more then a temporary artificial happiness either.

Happiness does come from a good attitude towards life the way I see and live it.

Money cannot buy happiness, only substitutes.

But money is necessary for happiness if you're unhappy living homeless and dependent on others.

It's a shame we must live this way, but change is always happening, and it is up to us young'uns to steer it in the correct direction.

I make Biodiesel for our family business...  I really want to turn that into a WVO collection service that supplements a large enough processor to make some money at it.  Not very business savvy though.  I want the free time that money can provide.  I just don't want to be a slave til retirement.  I worked at NBC in MT and resigned because it was so much Bullshit I couldn't handle it.  It was what I went to school for but...  No good.  The production staff made all the money for the company and they gave commission to the Sales staff, paid them more, and threw orders at us non-stop.  I felt like a monkey hitting a button.  I was making $3000 dollars a week myself in production costs for the company and getting a small fraction of that.  Fuckin pissed me off.  I was asked by the Station Manager if I was going to hurt anyone...  I thought...  Fuck, I might arm wrestle you, you prick.  Dude was the lead anchor...  Idiot all make-uped up.  I resorted to surfing Erowid and the Shroomery and basically didn't really give a fuck the last few weeks.  Used car commercials and furniture...??  Bad acting.  Not completely exciting.  Green energy however...  Promising.  I've got this big idea for 10 acres of nothingness owned by my father that boarders our cherry orchard.  Wind and solar off-grid and sell the excess power back to the PUD.  Now that would be sick.  I really feel that I can't enter into a normal job.  Its like I have to be in control.  Basically.  Answering to bosses and fitting in with staff members...??  Fuckin headache.  Its all Grey's Anatomy, Amercian Idol, and Bullshit.  But I have T-shirts for all of them...  One day...

Run with that idea dude!!!!!!!!:yesnod: If you read the book, you know generating passive income is KEY to the freedom from working you want to achieve!!!get that money working for you, not you working for it.

Green energy is where it is at. I think that's the field I want to look into generating more passive income from up the road a bit as well. Still have a lot more research to do.

That reminds me, I wanted to google what boone Pickens is up to with his wind mill idea and see if he is offering stock. I'm going to go do that now.

Putting the windmills up on your dads land and selling the energy to the local energy company.

If anyone wants to add some green energy to their portfolio, you might find this link a useful lead. Iberdrola is getting my attention. Couldn't find anything on Pickens company Mesa Power yet.

Biodiesel is frickin' awesome, I'm 100% supportive of it and I reckon it's going to be MAJOR. It's clearly the best choice for renewable fuel.

Back on topic... the whole reason we have money is because it's a convenient concentration of human decision-making. Humans make so many decisions when dealing with one-another that it becomes very handy to have a way of measuring those decisions. That's why we have money.

As a result, a lot of our decisions get blamed on money, when really, we'd make those decisions even if money didn't exist.

Money isn't the root of all evil - it's just a scapegoat so we can pretend the evil isn't within us.

Money is a form of energy. The same way you treat your body and mind you will also money.

I use my money to create free time these days. That creates another challenge.
