What exactly causes the tricho to set in. Im curious because that is the only contamination I ever get anymore and it always happens between flushes and starts on the side of the casing like in your pic and moves up. Its such a bitch to get rid of to and it always comes back if I try to cut it out.

Well, of course, the ultimate cause of Trich is, well, Trich spores  :grin:.  But the proximate cause is, I think, stale air and too much water, leading to what seem to be ideal conditions for this parasite.

This casing was touching the side of the fruiting chamber, and probably the condensate ran down the wall and into the casing, causing the millet to become waterlogged.  It was pretty soggy and nasty  :crazy:.

Oh, yeah, don't try to save one once it gets this.  Your best bet is to get it out of your growing area, quickly, because when it's green it's releasing millions of spores.  Throw it out or plant it outside....

According to TMC, trich prefers an acid pH in the 4-5.5 range, so adding oyster shell and/or lime to your casing mix (to raise the pH) helps.
