Okay, I'm sorry if this belongs more in the cultivation forum, but I feel like the people in the hunting forum would be better help for my idea.

Since i dont have a yard, ive got some space set aside at my ma's for a fungus garden

im not really finding much on the web about it, so heres my idea, and if you guys (especially Weilli) have any ideas let me know.

i want to do a patch with 3 different substrates, possibly sod, mulch/log, and manure/compost. im not terribly concerned as to what i grow, i know theres kits and stuff i can get for portobellos, morels, shitake, etc. but i just want to see what indiginous kinds i can get to grow first.

now, this is my ma's house, so im not doing cubensis, plus i live in michigan so it would be hard anyway, but im definately thinkin about some subbs.

i saw/read the way you did it, weilli, but id dig a little more info. what made you chose dirt instead of grass? how much poo/straw did you use, and how did you lay it down? how much light does your patch get? how often do you water it?

has anybody done this before? as i said, im not finding much on the web...

all you guys are real smart, im sure youll have some awesome ideas...

You might be able to get some used spawn from a local mushroom farm.  They fruit it 2 or 3 times but after that it is still good to use to inoculate an outdoor patch.

that crossed my mind, but i dont think there are any in michigan. the closest crap im finding is in canada.

I just started a patch in my back yard. It is shaded by the trees. First I laid down 3 note book pages covered with subb prints on them down. Then I laid h-poo/compost which has stable shavings and hay in it. I soaked it with a watering pail a few times and a part of it I laid SOD down on top which has already sprouted subbs on it before I brought it home. Still too soon to tell if it is going to work but I will keep you posted. I'll try to get picks tomorrow.

that was just about what i was gonna doo. the h-poo straw thing, maybe some bloodmeal for nitrogen... im hoping maybe some of the straw or poo i use will already have some subb spores, but i got some pages to be sure.

but what about the shade thing? how much shade are you guys planting in? also do you think itd have any effect, be it positive or negative, if i were to put my patch in a planter box? i dont know about soil drainage and all that, so i think ill just plant it in the ground.

i made a patch at my friends with store bouight manure, sod and decaying grass, but i dont think hes been watering it, so im not sure if its going. i think i did it three weeks ago...

also, where the hell do you get azurescens spawn? whats so sweet about this?
