Feature Request - the Thread Theme

I don't know if this is feasible, but it sure would be a great feature..

The starter of a thread can pick music/soundfile from a list, upload or whatever, and it autoplays for all who have "Autoplay Thread Theme" enabled while they browse the thread. For others the option to "Play Thread Theme?" appears as a button top of the thread.

It can be any kind of soundfile ofcourse, even texts the OP  reads out loud and rips to an MP3 or trippy sound effects etc.

Sure this feature can be abused but there can be plenty good uses for it as well. The only issue I see with it could be rights issues. A way to get around that would be to only allow soundbytes of a certain length. To avoid the server clogging up, soundbytes can expire after X days or inactivity.

There could be a list of user-created soundbytes everyone can use, and upload to, with peopler being able to vote certain thread themes off and on the public list.

The Shroomery can become a feast to the eye AND ear, a multimedia experience :smile:

Sounds cool but I think that would require more space that we need for "high res" pics

It's an interesting and certainly a unique idea, and if it would take 30 minutes to implement I'd do it just so people could have the option. But it would actually be a deceptively major undertaking, with bandwidth and disk space implications as well, and besides being "neat" and "atmospheric" I don't think it would actually add much useful functionality to the site. Of course I wasn't a huge fan of the anonymous forum idea either when you first brought it up, and that's turned out to be very popular (and easier to add than I thought, once I got down to it), so I'll keep an open mind and wait to hear what other people think. :smile:

That sounds like something I would definitely keep disabled.

But then again people might do cool things with it.
