 enhancement request - quick pm

seems easy enough...
I'd love for there to be a link under
the user's name in threads that would
be a sort of 'shortcut' to the pm screen.
maybe limit it to users that the viewer has
in their address book, or for the sake of a
saved database query, apply it to all by
default.
a lot of times I want to reply to someone, but
don't necessarily want to bump the thread, or
post for all to see, in which case you've got to
click through a couple windows to get to the send
page, leaving the original thread.
dunno...just a thought.
ps. I'm still praying for the comma-seperated recipient
functionality...as I lay me down to sleep, I pray the lord...

all very good points afoaf. i often dont do the pm thing unless someone has sent me one and i reply. im on 56k so its especially aggrievating to load up 3 windows(i think its 3) to send a pm. lets see what others have to say maybe we are just lazy... peace

Lazy bums! It's one extra click we're talking about here. Instead of Clicking the Username followed by the Send User a Private Message..., you want to eliminate the step of clicking the username? It's right there in front of you by where the PM button would be anyway! Plus, this is one of those hacks that would have to manually added to each new upgrade I'd imagine. I'm only speaking for myself here, and I think it's a nice idea... I just wouldn't want to put it upon the technical staff here to deal with such trivialities 
But in the end, it's up to them..

it'd be cool if there was an extra link under the user name that sent them a PM in a new browser window. I'm just THAT lazy and don't want to lose the thread page just to send a PM. I know i could hit shift and shit like that, but then i'd have to hit shift as well as click twice! Sheesh!
I think that option especially helps when approving posts in ODD. That is the one thing that discourages me sometimes from sending out PMs to users whose posts/threads i do not approve.

Really though, whenever I mod ODD and see a thread/post that don't belong for clear cut reasons but want to advise... I right-click on the "Edit" button and chose the 'open link in new window' option such that I can deny the post in the window that pops up ~ then I move my hand (the one holding the mouse) over about 2 inches so that I can click once to enter the users profile, and access the PM link.
Either way, you're still only saving two clicks from this method (the extra right-click to open up the Edit screen in a new window & the extra regular click to open the user's profile. TWO MO'FUCKIN' CLICKS!!!
What's the big idea?

i dont mind clicking im not that lazy but im on 56k and it can take awhile ot load crap up sometimes round here. so i just dont want to be sitting here watching it load forever doing nothing. that is the same reason why i cherish the quick reply. peace

I just don't want to do all that , instead clicking a little link next to the name that would say like pm (no link in this example) would be great.
Eitherway i don't really give a shit, but if it were implemented i wouldn't have a problem.

Say i don't approve 8 posts a day. That's 2 clicks * 8 posts = 16 clicks a day. 365 days in a year = 16clicks/day * 365days/year = 5840clicks/year i would save!
Oh and then there's leap year.....
