I'm unable to duplicate your problem. You're selecting which post you want to reply to, right? If you don't do that, a window will pop up and that would create a beep. What operating system and web browser are you using?

Thanks,

I'm also running Windows XP with IE6 and I cannot seem to replicate this behavior. I tested Quick Reply extensively when I was adding the "Reply to" radio buttons and I never experienced the problem you're describing. Do you have software installed to block popup ads, banners or Javascript? Do you have any browser plugins installed like the Google toolbar? I'd also be interested to hear from anyone else who's experiencing this.

Thanks,

-Y

Ive just got the basic stuff installed. if it defaulted to "Last Post" that would solve the problem. The thing is I have my speakers up so loud because of my music blasting all the time, that beep is like a church bell smashing my head apart. i shudder every time i go to click that button

Oh okay, I guess I didn't understand your question. It doesn't default to the "Last Post" option because we still want people to select which message they're replying to. As a workaround, go to Start | Settings | Control Panel | Sound and Audio Devices | Sounds, scroll down to "Exclamation" and disable it or set it to a less annoying sound.

now thats some bad software design

why no more "user-friendly" philosophy?

its far from intuitive, this is what happens when u get a bunch of scripters designing user interfaces. way too many options and not simple like it used to be. trying to stress out your users... meanies

It?s easy really:

In real life:
If you reply to a person , you address the person by talking to it.

Here:
If you use the Reply, you have to decide which user you want to reply to.
If you use the Quick Reply, you have to decide which user you want to reply to.

As intuitive as the life can be.

It doesn't get much simpler does it?

Now wait a minute!  I was there for the discussion about how and if we should modify the quick reply further - and while I was initially slightly dissenting to the proposed changes, Ythan had nothing but the user's interests in mind when he spent his extra time to robustify the code.  He believed that by providing the extra radial options, it would help people adapt to the quick reply feature while still instigating the user to choose a specific adressee.  We are trying to cater to all parties involved here, as the support for the entire quick reply function is split down the middle in the first place.  Just because you disagree doesn't mean that your judgement speaks for everyone who uses this board  :nonono:

I couldnt tell if your specific problem had been fixed or not, but do you have a 3rd party pop-up blocker? That may be signifying the blocking of the "choose someone to reply to" dialog.
