Feedback Regarding Quick-Reply

When somebody uses the quick-reply, the post that is created automatically makes itself a reply to the last person that posted on that thread..

Is it possible to make it just say "Quick-Reply" or something instead of "Re: Strumpling?"

i think that is dependant on the software. try to contact the infopop u.b.b.threads people. i think they may have a forum too.

Because people will see a post they wish to reply to, rush to the bottom of the page and quick reply. Then the reply appears to be directed to the last person who posted in the thread rather than the person they wanted to reply to.

This can happen even without quick reply but it seems to happen more with it.

At the very least QR should reply to "All".

When using quick reply a person could just specify within the post who they are replying to. Perhaps make it standard to first put the persons name at the top of the post, perhaps in bold lettering, and then the reply.

Sure you can say in your post "hey captain jack.." I am often looking for posts the reply to me, and I wouldn't see that.

Matts, so since YOU used to not used the reply function properly you don't want to fix the quick-reply so we can keep having more of the same problem?

I just came back to this thread because I ran into this situation several times today and its getting confusing - its way worse than it was with just the reply links.. because we could at least tell people "hey man reply to the right person" but with quickreply, YOU CAN'T; you're automatically replying to the last post.

Haha... this is an interesting debate.  Though UBB did remove the [Re: ] marker, I feel that was stupid decision and they should have included a toggle for the option. 

I believe the feature is quite useful under most circumstances.  Sure it won't always make sense (or be necessary), but it does help clarify comments from people who are too lazy to often quote. 

It'd be nice if the QuickReply indicated a reply to [Re: all] -- but I suppose we can't ask for miracles :wink:

Food for thought though.. if the QR did reply to "all" then that would eliminate the fundamental flaw of the [Re: ] system, as it would allow a post directed at the general topic and no specific user :smirk:

What sucks more is that you can?t insert images while doing a quick reply. Now this is a real bug.

That is one of the features that I thought made this board software heads and tails better then the others. Sure the is a little confusion with [Re: username], but there is far more confusion without it. I have you been to some of these other boards. You can't tell who's talking to who in a thread, unless you know the people involved and pay very close attention.

I was thinking of buying UBB.threads for a project, but now I may have to boycott them out of protest. I marched against New Coke, and I can march against this...

From what I understand, the version we're running now was the first not to include the [Re: ] feature... and it had to be manually added after everyone (including myself) complained to high hell.

Yeah, I find that the Re:username feature makes it much easier to decipher the different conversational sub-threads that go on in a thread. When I'm at other boards, which don't have that feature, I find it very hard to figure out who's talking to who -- it just becomes a big confused jumble... :frown:

They took out the Re: Username in all 6.2.x versions of UBBThreads. It is returning in 6.3 (currently in beta). I think the quick reply is fairly handy, and once we upgrade to the new version of UBBThreads, we can apply the newest "hack" of the Quick Reply feature. We can then do any other customization that we see fit.

There are several features in the UI of UBB.threads that makes it superior to other board software, and Re:username is one of them.

This is like when GM was going to get rid of the Oldsmobile brand, and then changed their minds. There is always some young hotshot in marketing that wants to fuck with things, just so he can feel like doing something. This sounds like one of those cases...
