No thanks for breaking Quick Reply

That's right. As usual, coders have no desire to code for anything but godforsaken internet explorer and chose to break things that worked perfectly well for other browsers. Doob's thread locked or I woulda posted there. I agree with Doob, GAY. and I disagree with afoaf, IT DOES NOT WORK JUST FINE! Try using opera to work the quick reply and you get a happy little box telling you that this feature isn't going to work with your browser. So, yeah, I (and i assume others) don't have the option of quick reply anymore. No thanks!

Perhaps a polite post stating that the quick reply changes don't work with the opera web browser version x.xx would get you further than the little tantrum above. Additional information, beyond "a happy little box...", would also help us determine what the issue is and how to fix it. Nobody is trying to get rid of quick reply; the motive is to restore threaded discussions. I don't have a copy of opera, so I cannot test with it. I did test with IE, firebird, and safari (for apple) and the changes worked fine with all three. The only changes made were adding about 10 lines of very simple javascript. If your browser doesn't support javascript, the changes made to quick reply will become transparent. Again... more information would help debug the issue.

A> I admit my attitude was less than productive, for that I apologise. B> If you consistently use a non-IE browser then you consistently experience the results of "coder negligence" and it is quite infuriating. What is primarily infuriating is that a working model was broken. C> I assumed that the happy box bit would be good enough information to the person(s) who wrote the offending code to begin with. Excuse my shortsightedness. BTW, Opera fully implements javascript.

thank you, anno. i?m using Ver 7.11 build 2887. This problem occurs regardless of OS as I?ve experienced it on Gentoo Linux, Win2K and WinXPSP1.
the "happy box" suggests just using QR the old way but that results in:

hey, seuss, i copied this outta the other opera thread as i wasn't trying to hijaak his but was curious if he experienced the same problem i did:
Quote:
Seuss said:Please provide more information about what it is doing, or not doing, so that we can fix the issue. I don't have a copy of opera to test with. The only changes made to quick reply were: 1) added a variable which gets set when somebody clicks a quick reply link 2) added a single line to existing code to set variable when clicking quick reply 3) added an onClick action to the contineu/preview reply buttons 4) created a function to test variable and display alert if needed The more info you can give me about what is going on, the quicker I can get it fixed for you.

So that pops up when you click the "Quick Reply" link in the thread rather than the "Continue" button at the bottom? (The message/alert Anno pasted, not the second one.)

debianlinux, the "happy message" stems from the original ubbthreads. They seemed to have noticeed that the Quick reply button doesn?t work under opera, and added this message.
I think the problem is easy to solve by simply except the opera users from this check or to code the Quick reply button in a way that works under Opera too.

i am set to report my browser as opera so that would be a workaround albeit rather lame from a coding standpoint.

No worries. I know how frustrating things can get when they don't work right and nobody seems to care. If you have other problems with opera, please let us know.

One problem I've noticed, which has been making my brain tumor grow, is that sometimes when you've typed out a message prior to clicking 'Quick Reply', it clears the text field and you have to start all over again when you do click it.

that makes sense. imo, learn to hit QR first or copy your text before hitting QR. but let's get this straight: you say SOMETIMES? that is disturbing. of course, i can't test it as i can't fully use the QR function (i'm stuck to using old-school mode)
