WTF...Do you think that the Admins are doing this? Maybe there's someone who knows how to get into your account. Anybody could have done it. Why not ask the admins.

Nice, more false accusations.
PM's expire after about 30 days.

that wasn't an accusation, did you read the rest of it?
It was a question, notice the (?). I have PM's from a couple of months ago so they don't just expire.
Also he said that one PM was new. Pay attention.

So do you think desireesden2003 is a member of law enforcement? Think about it. You are biasing everyone who reads the thread to whatever you say, whether you ask it in a question or declare it in a statement. As for ledzepln86's question... they do expire after about 30 days. I'm not sure what happened with the new one. Perhaps you could have been filtering the messages, and thought it was new when it wasn't, or perhaps that row in the database became corrupt. The admins do not read other's PM's or delete them, and do not delete posts, ever (if a post is to be deleted, it goes to a private forum which only staff can see, for future reference). Sometimes a database row can be corrupt, if a new one truly did disappear, it is probably this. Vamp or Seuss could probably tell you more.

Look whichever way you want to look at it, I was simply refering to this link. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat...;o=&fpart=1
Anyways like I originally suggested, ledzepln86, just ask them!

Wow, that's a really messed up thread. Think about it. If an admin can read your PM's or change your settings... an admin can also read your PM's with out you knowing. It's not very hard to change the status of a PM from "read" to "unread". Perhaps he got drunk one night and read it, and forgot. Perhaps his girlfriend or roommate read the PM and didn't tell him. Perhaps someone has stolen his password by using a back door, or using some other exploit. These situations are much more likely to happen than an admin reading his PM's. None of the admins at this site care enough about the crap people are sending. They are private conversations, so shroomery is not at fault if people are doing illegal things in them... there is no obligation or reason to police private conversations. I think he reacted a little too harshly for something which can be explained with a more logical answer. Shroomery's database is very very huge, so large that PM's are deleted after 30 days. So, if nothing else, then the database may have become corrupt/usntable, or something of that nature. I don't see why he was so quick to blame the administration for doing something silly like that.
Also, regarding his signature, an admin would not have to log into his account to change the signature. On the admin panel, there is a convienent link which allows an admin to change any profile information with out logging in. It's the same one you see, except the admin could change the data for any user.
So, his excuse that the admin logged in to change his sig, and read his PM's at the same time is completely false and down right silly.

I was the one who edited his signiture, since his picture was some 700 pixels or more, which really screws up threads for users using small display resolutions. As Matt stated, there is a function to edit profiles through the admin interface without having to log into the user's account. No PMs were read by me, and as has been stated, it was likely either an error with the site, a lapsed memory, or a friend/other who perchance had access to led's computer and started poking around. In short, who knows?

is there a way we can lengthen the expire time? PM's cannot possibly take up that much space/bandwidth compared to something like a sig, or random pics.
Maybe just like 120 days or something?

It is actually the size and complexity (number of indexes) of the database table which holds all the of the private messages that is/was an issue. When we were having database problems, it was taking over five minutes to repair the PM database table after a crash. By expiring old messages, the time to fix this table dropped to about fifteen seconds.

As I said, it is 90 days now. There is always the possibility to email the old messages to your email account and secure them this way.
