Visions from Heroin

The last couple times I snorted a large amount of heroin, I had what I can only think to call visions. It begins with me laying down and closing my eyes on a high dose. I go into a meditating trance where I am completely awake yet in a dream like state. Then a very detailed and elaborate picture will flash before my mind. One time I recall seeing an extremely highly detailed geometric design. Every vision I see is like looking at a photograph. The visions are way too complex and random to be a creation of my own mind and they are things that I have never seen before. Has anyone had a similar experience? Did I experience a dream while being fully conscious? Any other explanations?

They're hypnagogic hallucinations and imagery, common if you stay lucid through the going to sleep process. Similar to what people see when they meditate or try to achieve an OBE. The Heroin is just putting you in that half-sleep trance state more effectively than if you went to sleep normally.

Usually I take too little Opium to go there, but I have been on the nod once and had very enjoyable dream-sequences, basically the same scene over and over, with different twists, but very enjoyable.

Opiates like Morphine and Heroin also have Kappa Opioid Agonist properties.

Salvia is all-Kappa.

So, there's where your visions came from. If you are high on opiates and chew a bit of salvia, you can help the visions along a bit.

HIGHLY ADDICTIVE. Heroin, Opium and Morphine are highly addictive, imparting the illusion that it is no big deal and you have it all under control.

Yep, I get awesome visions before bed.  I've (madtowntripper) made posts about them before.  Incredibly detailed pictures that I can concentrate on and hold in my mind for minutes and examine.  Absolutely insane imagery.

One of my favorite parts about going to sleep, ever since I was a little kid.  Pot really dulls them though...

Me too, I normally see vortexes/black whole type things and theres tons of creatures being sucked in or coming out of them.

Welcome to hallucinogenic drugs.

I've had the same experience on LSD, morphine and opiate derivatives, and mushrooms.

The pleasure in seeing such creations repeatedly is knowing that your mind DID create those pictures. It's just not used to displaying it's powers. Hallucinogens and opiates demonstrate the beauty of the mind to itself. They unlock things within us we weren't aware we were capable of.

The human neuropathic system was designed to create patterns. This "pattern creation" is primarily meant for social applications: anticipating desires, analyzing social connections, "mind reading", empathy, etc. But this connection building has profound and far-reaching side-effects, which are only truly visible to us in altered or highly spiritual states of consciousness.

It might seem like these images are being transmitted, but really you are beginning to understand the outer reaches of your own imagination. The brain can function by itself to build and imagine without your conscious prompting; this is the foundation of a dream state.
