My experience with microwave sterilization is that it works. I recently cased two cakes and use microwave to sterilize the peat and vermiculite, no contamination. I dont think heat is a problem because it gets hot as fuck (steaming in fact) and is blasted by radiation, so I think its straight. Plus, it is fast. 3 minutes will do ya.

Just make sure you let it cool completely before you case.

Small jars heated in a number of controlled bursts - clump them together and leave them overnight in the microwave, they take hours to cool and seem to sterilize very well.

it works, sort of. I had a 1 in 3 success rate with microwave sterilization, but p cooking is the only way to go.

Throwing substrates into the microwave, in my opinion, seems to induce contamination. Even on wood based substrates that would otherwise in their natural state be resistant to contamination, are adversely affected by heating without actually sterilizing. Microwaves do not have proper dispersal of heating energy, therefore making proper sterilization of easily contaminated substrates impossible. Besides the fact that temps could not go above 100C anyways due to the fact that no pressure is being exerted on the moisture that is exavporating.

The micro works, but i say: get yourself a pressurecooker.
It?s much better.
I?m kinda obsessed with them.
I?ve got six now, and can?t wait n?til i find the next one.
Fleamarkets is a good place to find them, but my favorite is of course my greatgrandmothers one, not one batch has ever contaminated from that one.
I don?t know, but maybe she?s keeping an eye on things for me, hope so.
