I can totally relate.

A few years back my friend invited me to a Super Bowl party with a bunch of his other friends and family. I'm like "Oh cool, bunch of people, good food, I'm down".

As soon as I got there he started introducing me to his church group. I felt so betrayed.

There wasn't a beer in sight and to top off the awkwardness we all held hands and said a prayer during half-time.

Shit was fucked up

Fuck all that.  I would have left immediately after finding out there was no beer.

One time I got suckered into Jehovah's Witness Bible studies. I liked a girl who was Jehovah's Witness and it just kinda happened. It wasn't terrible, per se, but thank God I got out of going to Mass.

Churches creep me out too.

Every Christian church I have EVER attended, I felt like I was in a pit of vipers. Felt like I was attending a pagan ceremony.

The people there are SO fake, it is unreal.

I don't buy the whole "Jesus is God" bullshit. It goes against the teachings of the 10 commandments.

By praying to Jesus, rather than God, these people are perpetrating the biggest sin you could do.

I can honestly say that I have NEVER had an enjoyable experience in a church.

One time there was a psycho that came into our seminary class waving a gun and saying we were all liers and all this other crazy shit. I kinda empathized with the guy.

I used to get dragged along to church every Sunday as a kid. I was never big on praying, or worshiping Jesus, but church itself was always a pretty pleasant experience. Most of the people at my church (crazy beliefs aside) were some of the nicest, most generous, caring people I've ever met. If I wasn't so skeptical, I might even consider attending just to get to know such a great group of people.

I have similar issues with church. I actually started out my spiritual journey as a christian, and while I still think Jesus had an important message, and I even strive in my daily life to act as he would, after much studying, I found that Jesus stood for the opposite of what most church leaders do. When I go to churches now, I have trouble not focusing on the glaring differences in the words and actions of Jesus (who Christians by taking the name christian claim to be like) and the messages the church try to put out.

If you are going to follow a man who taught acceptance of all, and the importance of helping others, then WHY oh why do so many Christians propagate hatred, prejudice, and consistently turn a deaf ear on the many humans in need of their help?

Since you seem to very open on th subject, let me ask you a question. Do you ever feel God urging you to speak up about the corruption in the church, and in the Christian masses?

Bad vibes from a church service?  I mean I'm sure they're conducted in different ways in different churches.  But I've been to many Christian and Catholic churches and all they ever talk about is love, forgiveness and being a better person.

Its the stupid ass christians that go around outside of the church telling non-christians that they're going to hell unless they convert, that give off the bad vibes.  Correct me if I'm wrong but maybe you're associating these two very different things?

There are some decent churches out there, a good number of them are really trying to be "new-age'ish" and hip. But still, I haven't been to church in a while... its never really anything stimulating for anyone who likes to deal with harder questions I guess.

Sure there are a lot of dicks found in church, but there are churches out there with a lot of friendly and nice people.

Just saying....

Last time I went to church was with my exgirlfriend and her father's family. It was her half-sisters baptism. It was realtively small, and had a 'rock band'. I never really went to church as a kid, short of a funeral or two. Point being is I was asked to 'tape it'. More like handed a camera. I have a hard time holding cameras still.... oh well, it is not like anyone will ever watch the thing.

Church would be kickass if instead of the cracker for communion, you get ayahuasca like in some Brazilian churches.

They did a study of people from this church who regularly took ayahuasca, no surprise that they all tested to be healthier mentally than the control group, less depression, pessimism, psychiatric problems etc....

Man, THAT would get me going to church.....

"A human being is part of the whole, called by us 'Universe'; a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest -- a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness.

This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and affection for a few persons nearest us.

Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole nature in its beauty.

Nobody is able to achieve this completely but striving for such achievement is, in itself, a part of the liberation and a foundation for inner security."

Methinks the "bread" Jesus was breaking for the last supper was really a large mushroom cap, or something of that nature.
I'm sure Jesus got high all the time.

Not really. I feel like that would be kind of the same thing I'm having a problem with them about.
The thing is, all the time at church people will talk about the corruption in the church, how people need to "really live like Jesus", and they understand that the world has a negative view on them because of the way they act, but it never amounts to any real change.

I do think that there is a movement going on right now in the younger generation that will hopefully change the way people look at Christianity. I think it's called Progressive Christianity. Also people like Rob Bell (author of the book Velvet Elvis, which I recommend anyone read if they want a look into, at least what I think, real Christianity lived out is.)

I guess for me, I just try to live my life as best as I can. My views come up with people in conversation, but I never tell anyone to change how they think or feel or worship or anything. If something I say or do resonates with someone else, that's great! But it's not my job to tell others what they're doing is wrong. I can only love and encourage, and yes, pray. I don't think I do that enough though.

I do think I have a mission to stop ignorance about cannabis among Christians though!
