I'm a lazy fuck. I can Google OK because I'm not a fucking moron, but I still need to learn the syntax to get really good searches.

"The moon is made of rock" is not a belief, it is a factual observation, a logical conclusion of certain axiomatic statements:
1) a substance defined as "rock" has certain characteristics 2) retrieving a sample of moon material and testing for such characteristics is sufficient for the conclusion that the moon is made of rock 3) we have travelled to the moon and recieved samples, and those samples seem consistent with our definition of "rock" 4) the moon must be made of muthafuckin' rock
But a belief, such as a belief in God or in a quantum field or in randomness/chaos, carries no such burden of proof. And we all have beliefs. Even a belief in nothing is, oddly enough, a belief. When you get down to it, even the axiomatic statements listed above are ultimately contingent on belief. That being said:
All scientific explainations are not equal, as they are all relative to final causes (predictive ability, consistence with sensory observation, testability, falsifiability [if that's even a word]).
But
All beliefs, which in themselves have no final cause and are thus relative to ends subjectively determined and contingent, are ultimately equal (that is, we all have fairy tales and, all things considered, one is as good as another).
-------------------- No; truth, being alive, was not halfway between anything. It was only to be found by continuous excursions into either realm, and though proportion is the final secret, to espouse it at the outset is to insure sterility. Only connect...

Oh and by the way I'm not in favor of burning churches or anything like that, I think it's reprehensible. But that's based on my own sense of ethics, which is in turn based on reason and logic. For people who think God is omnipotent and everything He does is great, I don't want to hear any bitching. It's all part of His plan so suck it up.
My whole philosophy on life basically boils down to "leave me the fuck alone and I'll do the same".
People can believe whatever the hell they want (I remind you that science can be just as dogmatic as religion at times). When they use those beliefs to justify fucked up behavior is where I draw the line and when I retaliate.
Your quote got futzed... you credited me with what was said by Ythan

I wish I had something bright and shining to say about this, but I feel glad someone can take the risk to do it. So many thug-like people hide nehind the Cross. In my area, much harsh rhetoric comes from the Christian community. And it all goes by, very blase, very mundane. Christians make it very difficult for unbelievers, and they feel comfortable because they hold the majority and no one except the Goth/Satan teenagers challenge them. And I have stood on the end of some malicious shit that I couldn't answer because they phrased the rhetoric so well. I wished for Akira-like powers of TK to make people's heads explode on sight, but no such luck. And those rural churches didn't have anything *direct* to do with thise a-holes hassling me; but I also didn't have anything to do with "pagans murdering people" or "gays molesting children" or "unbelievers supporting terrorism." And even at my work, I have to pay lip service to the idea of Christ, or problems crop up. I get excessive scrutiny, co-workers spread rumors, I don't get booked with the clients I deserve. But I also got labels in my neighborhood that didn't go away, based on Christian prejudice. Granted, thug Christians, but still Christians. And I can't do anything about it. So some thug Satanists or Communists torched some churches? (or whoever did it) Good. Hurray for karmic justice.

Hey fellerz. This thread just caught my eye... I'm not going to say anything but I thought I'd show you something.

these are some friends of mine doing dumb drunken shit. I find this video hilarious. They took the crosses down after this happened because the kids were planning on doing it again and again until they were just charred twigs in the ground. This video made me laugh.

There's a difference between excercising your right to have an opinion and being an adolescent prick.
That would err far on the latter side.
The funny thing is when people try to hide those sort of actions behind their supposed freedom to do so, and yet they were deliberately persecuting other people, and succeeding in detracting from their ability to maintian the exact same rights. Hypocritical behavior against people they claim are hypocrites... so jam-packed with irony that it nearly gives you a headache to think about it.
This is just dumbasses thinking they're cool because they're rebelling against something... and they're actually not even rebelling, they're just doing things that they know will piss people off. Technically, it's a form of sadism.

yeah but you gotta admit, the video had a fairly humourous air to it. They weren't doing it to rebel or be bad or make a statement or whatever, they're just dumb drunken 15 year old kids doing dumb hardcore shit that cracks me up.
it is in no way satanic, just funny as fuck.
well you guys can say what you want... i find it amusing. the music is so choice for it hahaha

It's amusing in the "drunken jackass" sense, yes.

hehe... I always did love a bit of mischief.
Man, thinking about that really takes me back. Now that I think about it, during high school alone I committed at least 2 non-drug felonies, and more misdemeanors than I could possibly count
We all hate to be the victims of it, but I'll be damned if being a teenager would be the same without acting like a ballsy jackass once in a while

dude imagine the looks on the peoples faces when they look out their bedroom window at 1:00am on a sunday morning to see 3 life size holy crosses (keep in mind this is a very small town) burning up hard in fucking flames... it just makes me giggle. those old codgers would have thought "seriously.... what the fuck is this world coming to?"
just the hilarity of the disgusting nature of these adolescent crimes makes me laugh
