    #8258051 -

you just have to work harder at attaining the bliss. Thoughts?

i think it's more of a curse sometimes, but it certainly is nice when you can be confident in knowing you can probably solve any problem thrown at you.

I guess intelligence is required to fully understand oneself and one's motivations - if total self awareness could be considered bliss. I'd choose it over ignorance any day

if you were trying to contrast 'ignorance is bliss' you should have gone with 'knowledge is bliss'

ignorance is the lack of knowledge, not stupidity.

although, they usually go hand in hand.

I'd argue the smarter we are, the more likely we are to realize that it all really means nothing in the end. Hence, intelligence =/= bliss.

I think life can be appreciated and enjoyed for what it is, without an inherent meaning underlying our lives. It means what you want it to mean

The best way to live
is to be like water
For water benefits all things
and goes against none of them
It provides for all people
and even cleanses those places
a man is loath to go
In this way it is just like Tao        ~Daodejing

Wisdom/Awareness is bliss as you transcend the mind's "intelligent" attachments.

The mind is aware of intelligence, wisdom is aware of the mind.

No, I'm pretty sure that bliss lies on the retard side of the spectrum. There's even a birth defect (I forget the name) which causes extreme mental retardation and also happiness.

Have you been around many mentally retarded people for very long? I use to help retarded children, back when I was in high school. Most of them are quite blissful.

How do you really know what those people experience? They might look happy, but this doesn't mean that you really tell what's really happening with them, especially that there's no way in which you can really communicate with them.
In order to express a feeling of happiness, one has to have the necessary means to do so, like using language for example. Without language we are kind of lost since our perception can be quite deceitful. Sometimes we're wrong even about the things that are obvious and that can be proved, in this way, someone that only seems to be happy without having any means of confirming it makes things even more difficult for us.
On the other hand, there are intelligent people that look and that can also confirm their happiness through cognitive means. So why does this feeling necessarily has to be experienced more by retarded people?
Happiness seems to be related to our intellect, and if this is missing in retardation cases, can you really say that what they experience is genuine happiness?

All this time I've missed you
And searched this human race

Here my heart knows calm
Safe in your soul
Bathed in your sighs

I don't know they're happy, but they sure as hell look happy and the ones that could indicated to me using whatever language they had if they were happy.

I take it you haven't spent any real time with the mentally handicapped before. If you had, you would know that it is usually quite easy to tell what they are feeling. They don't have that propensity to hide their emotions that you find in those of us with higher intelligence. If one is mad, or sad, they'll show it very clearly, as clearly as they'll show their happiness.

Have you spent any time with the retarded?

> They don't have that propensity to hide their emotions

One of my friends was a regional manager for a fast food chain in the US. He hired a lot of mentally handicap staff for the chain. I asked him one time if they caused problems. His reply, "Nope; they are some of the best workers, and you don't have to worry about them spitting in the food like you do with the high school dropouts. They would never think to do something like that." His comments certainly opened my mind.

Intelligence is like a condom.

A condom serves a purpose, but if you walked around wearing one all day long you would never be able to pee.

Mushroomtrip, intelligence & happiness are not related in the least.

Happiness is a universal emotion which anyone is capable of experiencing. To state that there is a coorelation between intelligence and happiness would naturally imply that smart people should be the happiest.

The smartest people I know are the most miserable. They are consumed in a world of abstracts and ideas.

haha, no, but intelligence is a great tool we have. But if you dwell in the intellect for too long you become miserable.

My happiest times in life were when I was a little boy. I was definitely much more fucking dumb back then than I am now.
