My life is all mixed up...
    #8174678 -

I'm feeling rather crushed at the moment. I have about a million thoughts going through my head right now, fear happily controlling each one.

Without going into it, I'm currently trying to get a job in the career I've been studying relentlessly for the past 4 years. Only catch is I taught myself the bulk of it...and the lack of formal training has my confidence level in the fucking ground.

Why am I so afraid? I can't fucking help it. Fear stirs in me like some unseen beast. I don't know how to kill it. I need help...

The battlefield of life is alive with the sound of artillery. It shakes my very room as I type this. The shroomery is my last shelter... soon that will even be gone.

I can't keep writing this nothingness forever. I sometimes wish I could. Damn this computer. Damn the shroomery. Why do you shelter me like this? Why are your arms always so fucking open?

It's time for me to stop this nonsense. Lets face this head on... I'm going to do my best with what I have...and if that isn't good enough, then I'll die knowing I tried my fucking best.

Whatever problems you do have you just have to go straight through em and handle it. Don't sugar coat shit and do it.

Lack of formal training would have my confidence shot as well.

Would you believe an employee if he/she said: "I don't have any formal training......just trust me".

1. Assess the situation. Keeping a daily journal can help you learn about the causes of your depression and its frequency. Just a couple sentences a day can help you realize whether the situation is bad enough to seek help, or if what you need is a change of coping techniques. If you eventually seek professional help, this can also make your counselor's or doctor's assessment of the situation more accurate.
2. Find the problems. Use techniques like keeping a journal, or brainstorming (either on your own, or with someone close to you) figure out what it is that is either triggering your depression, or contributing to your unhappiness. It might be a certain person in your life, something you or someone else does, maybe something has happened and the change has made you uncomfortable. There are many reasons why you may be depressed. Don't worry, realizing the problem is a big step towards being happier.
3. Choose techniques to solve the problems. If someone is doing something to make you unhappy, talk to them about it. Use "I feel" language to calmly and logically discuss the issue, and try to come to a compromise that works for both parties. If the problem is a situation or a thought process that makes you unhappy, again, assess it logically and try to find techniques to deal with the problem. If you cannot find a source for your unhappiness, it may be a physiological problem. Talk to your doctor about checking for a chemical imbalance, which may be the source of your problems. The sooner you check for this, the sooner you can move towards solutions!

[edit] On a day-to-day basis:

1. Make an effort to do something that makes you happy. Listen to music (try to avoid anything sad, it just makes you feel worse), hang out with friends, watch movies, make art, write, go outside, exercise.
2. Try to improve your daily routine. Making time to get enough sleep and exercise, and to eat proper meals can make a big difference in your stress levels. Finding a balance between homework, commitments and having fun with your friends can also help you to be more comfortable in your life.
3. Put yourself out there. If you're feeling alone, being alone will only make you feel worse. Approach social situations with a positive attitude and try to enjoy the moment. If you're insecure, remind yourself that everyone is not laughing at you. Let go of your problems for a while. It's just as important to focus on having fun as it is to focus on that big test next week.
4. Spend time with the kind of people that you want to be. Being around people with goals and ambitions, and with healthy social and family lives can help you develop your own techniques in obtaining these things. It will also help you be more motivated to work towards your goals. Being around people who are happy will make you happy. Being around people who you're comfortable with will make social time fun instead of stressful.
5. Get busy. Having an active lifestyle is good for you. Exercise will, on a chemical level, produce endorphins (chemicals in your brain that will make you happy). On a personal level, it will improve your self esteem and sense of accomplishment over time. Find the sport that is right for you. There are hundreds. There is bound to be one that you enjoy.
6. Realize that you are not alone. Teens all over the world are experiencing what you are. If you need help, find help. There are hotlines for youth to call, counselors that you can get ahold of. You can always look into talking to high school counselors, if they are someone you trust. If the problem is a medical one, look into getting a psychologist, who can help you work through your issues.
7. Know that getting through high school is a hurdle, but it can be done.
8. Celebrate your successes, and plan for your future. Take the time to feel good about what you've achieved and to feel excited about what you will achieve.
9. Before you do anything drastic, give yourself a day to think about it and night to sleep on it. There is no deadline.
10. Plan for your future. Many teenagers feel depressed because they feel they're stuck in a dead end of a life. Make sure you're going to do what you want with you life, and start laying a foundation for this. If you hate the town you live in, start saving so that you can move away when you're older if you still want to. If you feel like a failure who's never going to get your dream job, then reassess the situation. Did you want to be a doctor because you'd make lots of money, or because you'd save lives? Study hard so you can achieve what you want to.

[edit] Tips

* Know that you're not alone, in your depression or in your life.
* Getting a dog or cat or any animal can provide enjoyable companionship at home.
* Take care of your body. Exercise will produce endorphins and improve your self esteem. Shower, brush teeth, change clothes. You'll feel better.
* Remember that everything will look better in the morning.
* If you ever feel suicidal or want to harm yourself, you need to seek professional help immediately.
* Seeing a therapist or doctor may help you to overcome your depression; as all cases of depression are serious.
* Friends will help you no matter what. If something is bothering you they will be more than willing to help.
