that's quite impressive but not everyone defines their reality by the absence of something.

you might say you don't feel these changes and you might never feel them at all. the ways the human brain works is a tremendous amount of power is placed in faith (both conscious and unconscious), until you can overcome this obstacle you will be a prisoner of your own mind and be susceptable to the conditioning of your perceptions by others.

A much more practical perspective on the matter is that your subconscious mind is associating different patterns in one's environment with past experiences. Placing goofy shit around the area is simply placebo ; the items themselves have no power beyond the mental power they are given, and they aren't resolving some external energy field. Tuning into one's mind and finding the actual cause of one's own feelings (i.e. they were created by one's own mind, not one's environment) and transcending it through becoming more aware is a much more effective step towards furthering one's personal evolution than adopting unsubstantiated beliefs in "negative energy".

The only thing feng shui is good for is practicing the act of conscious intention, which is a great thing, but it isn't due to anything but the meaning that one is associating with one's environment. When one places objects in one's environment with conscious intent to create an experience, it subsequently creates the experience, because one's own mind is responsible for the experience in the first place.

Now you understand the origin of your own feelings.

Jesus Christ on ice skates, lighten up.

It is unreasonable to expect that everyone who enters this forum will have the same understanding. There is no preliminary test to ensure that everyone has assumed a specific level of understanding in order to be accepted in this forum, nor should there be (especially if that would mean that everyone posts like you ).

Why be so condescending to people who clearly haven't reached the level you expect, even demand? Why not use more effective means of teaching them, to help alleviate the concern one has?

In my opinion, everyone should define their reality by the absence of themselves. Most people define their reality by the fear of the absence of themselves. It is entirely unnecessary, doesn't prevent the actualization of the imminent absence of oneself (death ), and obstructs our present experience of the totality of reality, occuring right now. Everything is happening right now. :mushroom2:

There you have it folks. Someone told him. Can't argue with that level of veracity. Its right up there with "I read it in a book" and "I saw it on TV"...

Being impressed or unimpressed does not concern me - that is mere emotionalism.

Understanding that one cannot prove a negative, as has been patiently explained hundreds of times, here is the goal.

Understanding that anyone can make any fanciful claim they want to is fine if they back it up; if not it is very likely imagination or false correlation and nothing more.

Have you ever been to the Cultivation or Pyschedelic Forums wherein the exact same questions are asked week after week when all the information is available?

Should things such as the Burden of Proof (and hundreds of other topics) be re-explained patiently to every person that comes in here? Honestly now?

Can we go over the '10% of brain usage myth' one more time? Cuz I didn't get it the first 80 times.

i need to clear my room of negative energies, usually i place a bowl of sea salt in the middle to absorb them but i had a friend tell me he uses a smudge stick and i want to try this method out. i don't have one of these but i do have alot of incense, would that work instead?

None of that will do the trick. Burn the house to the ground and then leave the area forever.:monkeydance::thumbup:

you guys don't get it... i'm not asking whether what i believe in is real or not. your opinions, although interesting, mean very little to me. i don't really care whether you think what i believe in is right or wrong, that's besides the point (and imposing your beliefs on others is rude).

although certain crystals do have some intrinsic physical properties which could suggest they have some sort of effect of electromagnetic fields this isn't why i choose to use them or why i choose to use salt to clear rooms of negative energy. the main reason i do these things is because it's fun, it's interesting to see what can happen if you place faith in an object or a practice. i don't care if its just a placebo, or memory/cognitive biases. all that matters to me is that i enjoy it and it works (even if it's all in my head). it doesn't cause harm to me or to anyone around me so i don't see why you have such a problem with what i choose to believe.

anyway this thread has gone way off topic so let's go back to the original question : will using incense instead of a smudge stick work for clearing a room of negative energies?

I think you answered your own question! If you have faith it will, then it will. I see little difference between an incense and a smudge stick. Only one way to find out right!? =]
Happy experiencing!

If it's just for fun then the proper placebo is a Penthouse magazine.

well i've been doing this for a while and i know how far i need to go in order to convince myself something will happen. choosing random objects and hoping they do the job won't really work in this case.

To ask that we play along with your fantasy is the antitheis to this forum.

How do you really know this?
This belief isn't sustained in any way or validated by reality.
And yes, it is true that incense has a real effect on us. A chemical one. Especially myrrh, frankincense, rosemary, basil (but so many others) can produce a chemical reaction in our brain that in extent will shift our mood. And as an effect to all that, one could feel a certain feeling of relief.
This doesn't mean anything more than that though.

Smudge your head not under your bed.
Light the incense and make sense of this instance.
