Starting 1st casing and have ?'s about humidity
    #784387 - 07/29/02 02:23 PM (21 years, 7 months ago)

Soon I will be doing my first casing, and I know you need to lower the humidity to somewhere in the high 80's. I have a upside down rubbermid with a tray of wet perlite. To lower the humidity, should I leave one end cracked a little bit, should I rermove the perlite, or some of the perlite, drill holes into it? I have searched around and these are the ways I have read some people do it. I just would like to know the best way before hand so I don't have to ask later when the time comes. Any suggestions?

if you have a small rubbermaid, start with no perlite and assume the casing will provide sufficient humidity on it own. if it does not you can add perlite later. it is easier to raise humidity than to lower it in my opinion

Just fan it more, My friend would leave the set up alone, sounds like a good one. On a side note, my friend has always left the humidity high with casing's and has had great success. It should be noted though, that she uses bulk substrates consisting of compost and 50/50. This high humidity may just work good with her set-up, but just thought I'd mention it. bluhoney

Thanks for the help. I thought low humidity during fruiting was a big deal to get the best flushes... Guess it isn't to be worried about too much
Thanks again
