84-86 should be good. You probably wont need any perlite or such just a container with light mistings every day or so.

Well, it depends on what phase you are in. Try keeping it a bit higher during the colonization of the casing layer. 93-95%. I have had no problems keeping mine around 90-92%, but other good cultivators have suggested 93-95. Then, once the pins form reduce your humidity a bit. I still keep mine around 90%. The above advice will work. I used to just keep them in a rubbermaid with no perlite. Spray the walls down once a day or so, and that should provide all the humidity you need. Even if you do not have a hygrometer, this works to keep your Rh whee you need it for casings..

yeah, isis is right keep the rH up around 95% during primordia formation
and you will get the the most out of your casings, i drop back to to the high 80s
once the pins are set
if you rH is to low during pinning moisture will be drawn out of the casing
which is what you dont want during this stage

Whoa!! Am I getting this right? You guys are saying no perlite with casings? I can just keep the rh in the covered casing containers right and be good? That seems totally different than what I have gleaned here. Is perlite then just used for terrariums with cakes?

you can use perlite as a humidity source in any application you want if you need to boost humidity...
whatever it takes to to get the rH where you need it.
i beleive isis has been using compost so she has all the humidity she needs more than likely,
ive been using cased rye, and i use perlite as a humidity source when needed
