Maintaining the proper humidity with perlite.

How does one maintain a 80-90% humidity for cased trays using perlite? It looks like the walls of the terrrarium are just sweating away so maybe the humidity is too high. Also, where can you buy accurate hygrometers? The ones sold at Ace don't read accurately above 80% humidity.

You can find a decent hygrometer at a cigar shop. Filtered air running continuosly will lower the humidity. You can also leave your terrarium lid on loose.

If the walls are sweating, it's probably 99-100%....just fan a little more frequently. That should do the trick I think.

What about too LOW humidity? My walls aren't sweating at all. I have about an inch and a half of perlite sitting in about 3/4" of water in two smallish tupperwares... that's all you need, isn't it?

They need a lid, and need to be pretty air tight to keep the humidity up. You can also hand mist after fanning to boost the humidity up a little.

Air circulation tends to help the most. My friend just fans the lid a little. But most times she just leaves the container alone even if the water droplets form on the sides.
