Cool Spray Vs. Perlite

Ok heres a question for anyone who has tried both of the above methods.....
which do you perfer? Ive read alot about both and they both seem to be matinence free... i need a setup i can just set the cakes in, and forget about.... im not gonna be around 3-4 times a day to screw around with it..... i'll be there perhaps twice a day, morning and night.....
apparently perlite is good, but it needs gas exchange.... i dont want to HAVE to be there to fan them out a bunch of times a day.....
the only thing that worries me about cool spray, is it being TOO good...... can you just leave it on 24/7? wont that over humidify the terranium? (it says to have a timer for 1 min on 6 times a day in PF tek)
anyone who has tried both methods please elaborate on which you think is best...
thanks

Cool mist humidifier is the best way. However, you are going to have to set a day out to just calibrate it to the right humidity. Yes, you could have it on a timer. The humidity wont be too high unless you ahve it on 24/7.
There is also something people do with water bottles, however Im not really sure how that works cause im just into manual spraying.
hey, you going to the burn this year or what? I seriously cant wait....ahhhhhH!!!! (I like the avatar)

oh Hellllll yea im gonna be at the burn this year matter of fact, thats the reason why im waiting so long to start my little mushroom project... im gonna be at the burn for like 2 weeks this year, so im just collecting everything i need now, then when i get back ill monkey around with it...... Which camps are you affilated with? This year we are setting up a shisha camp (shisha is flavored tobacco smoked out of hukas...) so we gonna have tons of hukas and nice pillows and stuff to lounge on.... im not sure of location yet tho.. prolly somewheres around center camp.... if u smell some wonderfully sweet smoke, just follow your nose and you will find us
so ya think cool spray is the way to go then huh? i guess run it with a timer or something eh? i just dont want to have to drop mad $$ on a hygo-ma-bober-thingie (humidity gauge) cuz the cheap ones suck ass....

Hrmmm air exchange only once a day with perlite? now that i can handle...... how many cakes do you put in your terranium? i got one of those big ass rubbermaid thingies.... if i only have to fan it once a day then im totally down with that......
anyone know how much those analog hygromaboberthingies cost?

BTW, thanks for your input everyone...
/me is leaning towards perlite/manual fanning

Hey Natural2Me.......you said 5-7 dry grams on each cake. What are the methods besides posted above that you use to get such good results???? Good job...keep it up.

I've always liked to have my cake and eat it to. Where are you going with this, phrozendata? Well, you can have perlite with good air exchange and without the mess. They only time you should need to open your container is to harvest (and maybe to give them light?) Well, I must give credit to ripper for this idea.
----start rippers work----
***When it comes to humidity***
Well let me say first off the person who though of using perlite for humidification was VERY creative. Not only does it do a great job on humidification, its CHEAP! Now the only problem I see with it is this. Perlite humidification requires some time to build up to the proper humidity(2-3 hours ?) and most of the time people aren't running pumps because they don't want to introduce non-humid air into the chamber. Also traditional methods of using perlite require using a layer of perlite along the bottom and yackidy smack. Materials:
Perlite
Pitcher(SP?) (used for ice tea and kool-aid)
Water(tap water or distilled)
H2O2-Hydrogen Peroxide(optional but recommended)
So heres what I did. I took a pitcher(SP?) that was 5" in diameter, I filled it about 1/2 way full with dry perlite, then I added water(making sure to get all the perlite on top wet to weigh it down) until about 3" of water was at the bottom, now I added about 50 mL of H2O2(Hydrogen Peroxide 3% solution) spread over the top of this, I placed this into the chamber, now I took a air pump for a fish tank(I used the one with dual outputs) ran the hose into the chamber and down into the water under the perlite. I leave this running 24/7.
Now the benefits of this vs. the traditional method: #1 it takes up less space... #2 it introduces fresh air #3 the hydrogen peroxide added to the top seems to evaporate into the air preventing things like cobweb mold and trichoderma(not completely but it made a significant difference, BTW- I ran it both ways to see if it was just placebo and it showed up to have a positive impact) #4 since theres fresh air being introduced along with humidity the only time the chamber needs to be opened is for picking! #5 this seems to bring the chamber to 90-95% humidity in about 60 minutes vs. the other method #6 cleaning it up is a snap, just removing a container, rather then scooping perlite off the bottom(pain in the ASS!)
And this isn't just for small chambers.. this method was used on an aquarium that was 13"x48"x20"... only about 6 cups of perlite in the container and around 1/3 of a gallon of water were used...
---end rippers work---
There you go. I hope that helps.

Ahhhhh
all this info is Grrrreat! thanks again everyone.... im slowly forming an idea of what im gonna do! i was browsing the Faq's and doing searches (like a good little newbie) and i stumbled across a very nice looking terr.
it was a rubbermaid setup, with a layer of perlite on the bottem, black painted on the sides (to keep the shrooms growin up i assume) and a piece of Pvc pipe in the middle (the pvc serves teh same purpose as the pitcher, it was filled half way with water + h2o2, and had a fishy pump stuck into it.... then it had a bunch of holes drilled in the top to let teh air/humidity out(drilled in the pipe, not the top of the terr), yet it was tall enuff to prevent the water from splashing all over the place.... it also had holes near the perlite layer to allow C02 out.....
ok so heres a few more questions for all of yall.....
1st off, can anyone give me a working ratio for h2o2+water?? how many parts?? so if im making a gallon of h2o2+water how much h202 do i need??? 1:10? 1:50? 1:100? and what %h202 should i use? 3? 5? 10? 1?
and 2ndly does fanning manually increase the chances of contamination? and will those holes near the perlite layer (for c02 release) increase my contamination chances??
