No thats just logic. If you sign up for infantry and think "Fuck yeah I get to kill people without any danger to myself" then you probably will and desrve to get fragged over there. Secondly if you're willing to kill for someone else's profit, that benifits you in no way, well I don't consider you someone worth the life you were given. Now some of the Devil Dogs I know actually switched their MOS to infantry because they wanted to keep their brother alive. Thats a lot more noble to me than saying "I get to waste some ragheads" which they do indeed say. Not agreeing with the fight, but going to try to keep your friends alive... Thats something to respect.

Whoa whoa whoa.... The connection between the counter culture in the 60's was coincidental. There was a lot going on back then dealing with civil rights and free expression of ideas and feelings. You think Leary wouldn't have spoken about droping out of the system if there had been no war?
The counter culture had its opinion about the war, the war didn't create counter-culture. Sure it drew some people to it but it still wasnt the cause.
Our generation, apathetic and selfless (not the good kind), will never feel strongly as a mass one way or the other, until someone on the media says its cool.
Give you an example, a friend of mine from high school heard me blasting Against Me! during lunch and said it was terrible. Same friend saw Against Me! on MTV this week and has become obsessed.
Sheep will not lead the flock to purpose.

now that i remember, a guy i knew from high school went into the army and he works at subway now, lol. i have a higher paying job than him. not sure why he's working at subway...

could just be that it took more than one listen to really start digging it. first time or two i listened to the national i was rather nonplussed. thought they were bland and mediocre. but after a few more listens, i started to really get the urge to listen to them. and eventually i realized i was in love. a fair amount of music works like that for me.
