I'm also using Vista, but I sure as hell wish I still had XP.

But if you're set on Vista, then I'd suggest finding a torrent at isohunt.com or mininova.org

When the hell are people gona learn to stop using the shit that is Limewire. it seems no matte where i look people use it - online and offline.

Coincidently many of those people also use, or want to use, Vista.

I don't use explorer, but I get all kind of weird things happening. I get freezes that last 90 seconds or so, the quick launch buttons stop working (but the start menu works still)... I get home and find my computer has reset itself, and about fifty other things. Terrible.

That pisses me off to no end when that happens.  I'll leave my computer on overnight while I sleep so a torrent can download, only to wake up to discover my computer has restarted and returned to the login screen, and my torrent will barely even be started :crankey:

I noticed my laptop restarting itself too so I just made it where I don't have to enter a pwd in the login screen that way it won't int interrupt my torrents.

oh yeah and when i first got vista it wouldn't let me rename files, even though I was logged in as admin and clicked the THREE confirmation dialog boxes, PLUS the 'allow' button.

I'm echoing what everyone else is saying in this thread - STAY AWAY FROM VISTA. It is a pile of steaming dogshit.

Vista came pre-installed on my new laptop. Which is a pimp ass gaming laptop.. (2x 8700GTs in SLi, 2GB ram, Core 2 Duo 2.4Ghz) and can even run Crysis fairly decently. But Vista hogged resources like a mofo.. it lagged like hell all the time and programs would randomly close or fail to open altogether... on a BRAND NEW state-of-the-art machine. That was fucking unacceptable. I ditched the fuck out of vista and installed XP and my machine is running 10 times better. It took me about two straight weeks of looking for the right drivers, blue screens of death... 10 failed slipstream XP cds... but it was worth it. Now my machine runs amazingly smooth and feels like a spaceship.. with vista it was running like it was built in 1995.

I would advise staying far far away from Vista. They say you shouldn't even use it unless you have 4GB of ram or more... but even if I had that much ram I wouldn't waste it on Vista. Seriously that OS is complete trash. Maybe in 3 years they will have patched it enough that it will be workable.. but for now it's a complete waste of resources and is full of conflicts. I'll still use XP even if they fix Vista.

If you really want it you can find it on a torrent site. But I wouldn't waste your time. Plus being able to actually crack it might prove difficult.. they have some new program on vista that can make certain programs completely inoperable if it detects you have a pirated copy.

I've been thinking about switching my laptop to XP from vista but I don't have a disk or anything. I kinda expect to have alot of problems with it if I get it from a torrent, but I'm not sure. Do you think I would regret putting a pirated version of XP on here in place of Vista?

No. I'm on a pirated version of XP compared to a legit copy of Vista and I couldn't be happier. Granted, I had some issues.. but I've dealt with most of them.
Pretty sure this is the one I used... you just can't use the windows authentication tool. You have to extract all the files first... and I would advise getting all your XP drivers first... and making a slipstream XP CD with all your drivers pre-installed on the XP cd using nLite. That way you have a seamless installation with all your drivers intact without having to fiddle with anything too much.

Its been said to death but just stick with XP. SP3 is coming out in 1H 2008 and will cement XP as the OS of choice for any Microsoft user.

Yep. Stick with XP. When I installed Vista, after a few hours of experiencing it's crappyness, I reformatted and put XP back on.

Also, use something instead of Limewire, unless you're hunting for induvidual songs. Still, in that case, Bearshare is better usually.

Just use torrents. :smile:

My experience with Limewire is hidden trojans and malware up the ass.. I would not trust it.

Soulseek is FTW as far as music is concerned.

yeah honestly i was gennoa be with the hype and go buy VISTA, then i saw how it preformed on some friends of mine computers... it seems to freeze and have problems with alot of shit... hell my old ass pirated version of XP works better and fails less then his VISTA
