Can't install modem

I had some problems with my computer yesterday (posted in a thread further down), but managed to sort it out - at a cost.


The whole Windows XP 'skin' has gone, it now looks like Windows 98, and the sound has disappeared.

My biggest concern though is that I can't install AOL 9.0 (I know it's shit). It gets to the Modem drivers, and begins to install them. However, when it reaches the end, it says the operating system cannot install the drivers.

Help please.

first off, aol will ruin your computer, thier are a lot more cheaper isp's out there, and that would be your first mistake...

where did you get your modem? is it new?

the skin is easy to turn on, i dont use xp, but i think you right click inthe task bar and go to properties, then click advanced. its either that or something else, i dont like xp, so i dont use it.

you can check out driversguide.com for drivers if you know what modem you have. model number or manufacterer etc...

To both of you: if it were up to me, i'd do what you guys suggested, but the computer is used by the whole family, and they wouldnt be able to use linux. Also, they are very stubborn about using AOL, because it's a 'respectable company'.

Install Linux and tell em it was written by satan worshippers.

edit: Fine, fine, i'll help you. Find out who made your modem and
sound card, go to their website, and install the latest drivers. that
should help.
