Linux:

It doesn't crash.

It's more secure.

Windows:

It crashes.

It's not always secure.

Linux: has a mind-bendingly large number of completely free, good quality apps, and most linux distros come with a ton of them pre-installed.

Windows: You can't do much with it out of the box, you have to go hunting for apps. And the apps are either commercial or feature-limited demos or full of spyware, etc.

Dude, if you've never used Linux before, try RedHat. It's good for beginners.

That looks awful

Ubuntu will send you a cd for free (takes a while tho)

I'm telling you, I've never seen that awful mess before   Just somehow get your hands on a disc so you can do a regular install

I mean, I've come to the point where I try to future proof my computer. I get some pretty good hardware and hope that it doesn't get outdated or at least the updates don't outdate it.

As far as I'm concerned, windows was pretty perfect with Windows 2000.
XP was like what the fuck, then XP Pro was without the bullshit but pretty much the same as win2k. Now they have Vista? XP Pro is as far as I'll go but Vista is just ridiculous with how much they're changing/adding to it. Fuck man... I could be perfect right here with win2k.

Maybe I'll try linux someday.

Linux is good if you're a computerphile, otherwise it'll just be a hassle. What I suggest is having both Windows and Linux on your computer. That way, you can run the majority of software, but still use Linux once in a while. You'll really get to know how a computer works using Linux.

I'm a computerphile and Windows suits my every need. My build is incredibly stable and I have no problems with it at all. I don't run the Explorer shell though, I use LiteStep.

I have just recentely installing Ubuntu Linux (dual booting with WinXP) and I must say that while it runs relatively smooth and the free aps through the repositories are amazing, the fucking thing can break without you personally doing anything.

I installed an update and restarted per the instructions and upon reloading it would not finish the boot up. I had to load a previously installed kernal to go back into the desktop and had to wait for the next kernel based update to be able to log in to the most current version.

And now, through no fault of my own, just performing a daily upgrade, I restart and now update manager doesn't work. And many programs are failing to load.

Take Linux with a grain of salt and know you'll probably fuck it up pretty bad and have to do a reinstall. Which is what I plan on doing in the next few weeks.

I had no issues whatsoever. And you can update via terminal if UDM fucks up.
