Fellini: 8 1/2 La Dolce Vita Nights of Cabiria
Bergman: Wild Strawberries Persona
Tarvosky: Solaris
Jodorowsky: El Topo Holy Mountain
Akira Kurosawa: Red Beard
Er... I can't really remember. It's been so long since I've been watching these that I have to try to remember what movies they made. Just watch them all, in my opinion.

There's also some I haven't seen yet. Like The Mirror by Tarvosky which I hear is awesome.

WAIT! Don't forget about Werner Herzog. That man kicks fucking ass.
The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser Stroszek Even Dwarfs Started Small
^ Some of what he did.
Luis Bunuel has some things to say too. David Lynch is good, but he deals more with people. Same with Woody Allen, and Billy Wilder.
And forget about Pi.

Akira Kurosawa: Red Beard
I'll recommend "Akira Kurosawa's Dreams" ahead of Red Beard, though all of Kurosawa's works are splendid.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0100998/
Quote:
Kurosawa is a visionary and a complete artist. No matter what he undertakes he is relentless in his pursuit of perfection and truth of the art of film making. Visually he is the master that everyone should be inspired by. As a story teller, he layers plot and characters in the depths of emotional revelations.
Dreams is an experience in film making. More then a mere moment of film magic it is a work of art to aspire to.
Pi, also excellent, is available pretty regularly for streaming on stage6. I'll find that link for you later tonight.
-------------------- Q: We wanted to see if you had the ability to expand your mind and your horizons... and for one brief moment, you did. PICARD: When I realized the paradox... Q: Exactly. For that one fraction of a second, you were open to options you'd never considered. That's the exploration that awaits you...not mapping stars and studying nebulae... but charting the unknowable possibilities of existence. To carry yourself forward and experience myriad things is delusion. That myriad things come forth and experience themselves is awakening. -Dogen Zenji
