can I freeze a mushroom and clone later?

Is it ok to freeze a mushroom for later cloning? I have two liquid cultures of shaggy manes on the go, about 3 days in, and I have another shaggy mane popping up in my grass. I would like to see how my two LC's go before starting another, as well I have Agar in the mail and wouldn't mind doing a clone to that when it arrives. Of course given the nature of the shaggy mane it's just not going to last until I am ready. Will freezing hurt it?
Thanks,
Cul

cold speeds up deliquescence in coprinus mushrooms, it may turn into black mush before it actually freezes....and thawing out might do the same if you get one to actually freeze.

Do you re-hydrate when you go to use them again, or just clone them dried? The two I have in my yard have been heavily rained on, so what I am thinking of doing is just collecting the stems for cloning. They last a lot longer and likely easier to dry?
Thanks for the response,
Cul

You're highly unlikely to get a clean culture in LC from an outdoor mushroom. I'd give your chances at less than one in a thousand. Liquid culture is for expanding mycelium, once it's been cleaned up. Agar is for culturing mycelium and isolating it away from contaminants. RR

True, but when I am waiting for my agar to arrive in the mail it gives me practice on using my PC and sterile techniques, practical experience to fit what I am reading, etc. If it doesn't work then nothing lost, not even time really.

Freezing a fresh mushroom will destroy its tissue at the cellular level, rendering it unsuitable for later cloning. RR
