amanita muscaria find? (updated with pictures!)

alright well just today while i was talking around i stumbled across some rather large amanitas. they has yellowish caps, though the yellow is pretty pale. they have white scales, and im not sure if they are muscaria or not. they were found on the east coast in western PA, if that helps at all.

im am 100% sure they are at least some sort of amanita, but what i dont know is if amanita muscaria caps are this color of yellow. i know they can be yellow on occasion, but this shade of yellow seems to throw me off. if i can get a picture of them i will. i think ill do that in a little bit. but my question is, how many amanita species could it be, if its cap is light yellow with scales?

Edit: i just remembered, western PA is not the east coast. =P

alright, im on it. wait for 10 minutes, and ill have em up.






the scales fell off of the mature/oldest mushroom in the network, but the young ones still maintained their scaley goodness. the coloration on the large cap almost reminds me of amanita phalloides however. it doesnt quite seem like muscaria to me. what are your thoughts shoomerites?

Eh, I wouldn't mess... A lot of Amanita species resemble those.

It's an Amanita, but not a muscaria. The stem base doesn't look right, if there's concentric rings, I can't see 'em.

Maybe Amanita flavoconia?

thanks for the info. ill keep on searching til i come upwith some red caps. these looked so amazing in their habitat. i love finding amanitas. they are so big, and symetrical and just add so much to wherever they are growing.

i did not plan on eating these by the way. :thumbup:

I agree, the concentric rings are missing. Could be one of many species.

even tho they dont have concetric rings they tend to sill be active. i decided to do some research into due to them tending not to be deadly the ones that fit that description. but any who i suggest you play it safe.

looks more so like washed out yellow to me. i really dont mess with the washed out ones for safety,

we hers some yellow picks if they help
