I grow my pedro indoors with a blue plant light (from target) and twelve hours of light a day. Watered once a week. It is huge and thriving.

you can buy the bulb for a few dollars or the bulb and fixture for $20. The blue light is used because it simulates sunlight closer than white light. Remember that Ultraviolet light is at the "blue" end of the spectrum so the blue light is healthier for the plants.

One of those cheap "grolites" is fine. You don't need an expensive MH rig for cacti...unless you have a lot of them in a small area.

I have pedros and peruvians on my window sill here in Canada right now. They're growing like crazy with only a few hours of direct sunlight a day and quite a few hours of indirect sunlight.

Even if you just move them to a window sill in summer, they'll grow. It's whether or not you want OPTIMUM growth.

Remember they're pretty damn tough in the wild and survive cold dark winters. Just remember to pot them in a loose airrated soil and DO NOT OVER WATER THEM!! That's the single quickest way to kill a captive cactus.

It may look like a button mushroom right now, but wait until you see how it grows!
