Illinois man found dead at music festival near Detroit Lakes

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. — Authorities conducted a drug sweep at the 10,000 Lakes Music Festival near Detroit Lakes on Friday, hours after a man was found dead there.

Becker County Sheriff Tim Gordon said the body of the 35-year-old Emden, Ill., man was found at a campground near the music festival grounds early Friday.

Gordon said the man may have had a medical condition, but an autopsy will be conducted.

The body was taken to the Twin Cities for the autopsy, which will include toxicology tests. The man's name was not released.

The sheriff said there was no indication of trauma or foul play when emergency crews arrived just before 6 a.m.

About 15,000 people are attending the music festival, which runs through tomorrow night.

Gordon said that during the sweep, nearly $25,000 worth of Ecstasy, heroin, cocaine and mushrooms were seized and about a dozen people were arrested.

fucking dirty stupid coppers! I wouldn't be surprised if he died from eating too many drugs on the spot, after realising he had to get rid of them, fast.

Is heroin really a big presence at festivals? I've never seen it, but I dont go looking for it really...and I've never heard anyone whispering 'H' as I walk by...??

Well, I had planned on maybe going to 10klf next year. Now I'll have to take this into consideration. Of course, next year they probably wont have anything like this happen.

Second death reported at music festival in Detroit Lakes

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. — A second death at the 10,000 Lakes Music Festival near Detroit Lakes.
The Becker County Sheriff's Office says a man was found unresponsive last evening in a restroom behind the stage area.

The man is identified as 24-year-old Ian Arvid Mortensen of Winona.

Sheriff's officials say there were no signs of foul play or indication of trauma.

Officials say Mortensen may have overdosed on drugs. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner is investigating the exact cause of his death.

Earlier yesterday, the body of a 35-year-old Illinois man was found at a campground near the festival.

Sheriff Tim Gordon says that man may have had a medical condition, but an autopsy was also being conducted.

About 15,000 people are attending the music festival, which runs through tonight.

the word, 'rampant,' comes to mind... H, OC, dilaudid, morphine, etc, etc..

all are fairly common at the festivals i've been to... all-good had probably the most for the amount of people that were there... the old Berk-fest in mass got a little messy.. and gathering used to be bad w/ opiates and crack of all things, back in like '00..

at 10klf last year, I met some guys from ireland the first night, they were looking for pot, I smoked them out and gave them a cold beer. we went walking to find some pot. instead, that night, we bought MDMA, blow and H, it wasn't until the next morning that people came by with kind bud
